Monday - Friday 7:30am to 4:00pm; some shift work & extended hours
The Plumber Utility Mechanic I assists in the fabrication, installation, maintenance and repair of heating, plumbing, mechanical piping systems, structural steel, package boiler equipment and water treatment, kitchen equipment, auxiliary equipment, steam, water, gas systems and other building mechanical equipment; auxiliary equipment, steam, water, sewers both sanitary and storm, irrigation systems gas and air systems and other building mechanical equipment; above and underground steam, domestic water, HVAC (chilled and hot water), sanitary and storm distribution systems;
firing, tending and maintaining pressure boilers to supply heat for buildings and domestic hot water. Drives from site to site.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED and two (2) years of plumbing, pipe fitting, structural steel (iron worker), boilermaker, millwright, boiler tender, steamfitter, or sprinkler fitter experience. Must have valid U.S. driver's license. Must be at least 19 years of age at time of hire and have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report that is in compliance with University policies. Applicants under the age of 21 will have some driving restrictions.

Final candidates must submit to and successfully pass a post-offer drug screen.
Skills and KnowledgeMust be able to lift, handle and maneuver the tools, materials and supplies of the job. Must have the ability to read, interpret, and troubleshoot blueprints, drawings, manuals, maps, schematics, and plans. Ability to do material takeoffs. Must have good people skills with the ability to work effectively in a team environment. Must have good communications skills, both written and verbal.
Preferred QualificationsState of Alabama Journeyman Plumbers License or Alabama Master Plumbers License. Welding experience.
