Position SummaryThe Paint & Sandblast Supervisor is responsible for overseeing all surface preparation and coating operations to ensure quality, productivity, and compliance with project specifications, safety standards, and production schedules. This role leads the paint and blast team, maintains equipment readiness, enforces safety and environmental controls, and ensures finished products meet customer and code requirements.
Experience Requirement- Minimum of 5 years of hands‑on experience in industrial painting and abrasive blasting operations.
- Prior lead or supervisory experience is strongly preferred.
- Supervise all sandblasting, surface preparation, and painting activities.
- Ensure proper surface prep (SSPC/NACE standards as applicable) prior to coating.
- Verify correct coating systems, mil thickness, cure times, and application methods.
- Inspect work in progress and completed work to prevent rework and quality issues.
- Coordinate sequencing with fabrication, welding, and assembly teams.
- Lead, train, and manage paint and blast personnel.
- Assign daily work, set priorities, and monitor productivity.
- Hold team accountable for workmanship, housekeeping, and safety.
- Address performance issues and recommend corrective actions as needed.
- Enforce all safety procedures related to blasting media, coatings, ventilation, PPE, and confined spaces.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, environmental, and company safety standards.
- Maintain proper handling, storage, and disposal of paints, solvents, and blasting materials.
- Ensure blasting and painting equipment is maintained, calibrated, and ready for use.
- Monitor inventory of coatings, abrasives, and consumables.
- Coordinate with materials and maintenance teams to prevent downtime.
- Review and follow project specifications, coating procedures, and customer requirements.
- Complete required inspection records, batch logs, and production reports.
- Communicate issues early—surface defects, material shortages, or schedule risks—before they impact downstream work.
- Strong understanding of industrial coating systems and abrasive blasting methods.
- Familiarity with SSPC/NACE standards and coating inspection practices.
- Ability to read drawings, specifications, and coating data sheets.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
- Detail‑oriented with a high standard for finish quality.
Work Environment Requirements
- Ability to work in industrial shop environments.
- Exposure to noise, dust, coatings, and blasting media (PPE required).
- Ability to stand, walk, and climb as required during inspections.
- Deliver high‑quality, code‑compliant coatings with minimal rework.
- Maintain safe, clean, and efficient paint and blast operations.
- Meet production schedules while protecting downstream processes.
- Take ownership of the department’s performance, quality, and safety.
