Overview

He/she is highly visible to the department’s outpatients, guests, inpatients, physicians and other customers. Employee must be highly sensitive to customer and patient needs and expectations and display excellent interpersonal skills, judgment, dependability, conscientiousness, caring and empathy. Cordially greets and assists all patients, families, physicians and visitors in a professional manner as they arrive in the department. Highly organized and well versed in using electronic records, digitizing and with the technology.

Responsibilities
  • Possess knowledge of Imaging Department workflow. Coordinates patient care activities, dispatches clinical staff and transport staff. Must be extremely sensitive to customer needs and expectations. Cordially greets all in a professional manner.
  • Provide care and safety to patients undergoing treatment and exams. Meticulously inspect orders and generate accurate paperwork to initiate the examination process. Demonstrate knowledge of privacy rules and release of PHI information requirements.
  • Have adequate knowledge of the PACS digital imaging system. Support physicians and staff in the use of digital imaging systems.
  • Utilize I Care principles to ensure proper patient identification, correct exam, and to improve patient communication and engagement.
  • Maintain current electronic records and reports. Scan and commit images to film or CD. Use image exchange cloud system or import outside CDs or film for physician comparisons.
  • Assemble, sort, maintain and disassemble patient imaging records, including printing and electronic scanning of film or reports. Process requests for CDs or film by classifying requests (e.g., physicians, physicians’ offices, OR, ED or other health care organizations) by phone, mail or direct request (ROI). Ensure authenticity of requestor or designee, guardian or patient. Maintain electronic record of exams released.
  • Operate department-specific computer systems for dictated reports, prioritizing and printing reports, and faxing or mailing reports to physician offices or health care organizations. Use Chart Maxx for operative exam reports in the OR to avoid delaying radiology reporting. Knowledge of Accu Reg check-in, Softros messenger for IR patient arrival notifications, and Expanse system. Assist transport staff with Teletracking entries and usage.
  • Present appropriate outside mammography films on viewer for radiologist comparisons, remove film from viewer and maintain film records. Ensure outside films are returned to facilities by mail or courier. Ensure every imaging exam receives a completed report within 24 hours to avoid delaying TAT.
  • Knowledge of imaging department patient supply and exam charge processes. Assist daily with computer entries for patient supply and exam charges. Follow billing practices.
  • Perform daily delinquent charge capture for all exams and reports. Ensure integrity of patient records and bills.
  • Serve as liaison for imaging services with outside physicians and staff. Take verbal reservations from physician offices and written orders for walk-ins. Anticipate scheduling conflicts, exercise good judgment, schedule or reschedule patient appointments, and coordinate walk-in outpatients into the workflow, streamlining the process.
