Job Summary
The Welding / Quality Engineer is responsible for ensuring all welding operations meet the highest standards of quality, safety, and regulatory compliance across a U.S.
-based manufacturing facility and supporting global plants. This role serves as the technical authority for welding processes, welder qualification, and metallurgical problem-solving, while driving continuous improvement in welding technologies and quality systems.
This position works closely with Production Engineering, Quality, and OEM customers to ensure compliance with AWS, ISO 3834-2, and ISO 9001 standards. The role plays a critical part in OEM readiness, structured problem-solving, and maintaining consistent welding quality across multiple sites.
Key Responsibilities- Develop, maintain, and control Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) in compliance with AWS and ISO 3834-2 standards.
- Oversee welder qualification and certification processes, ensuring ongoing compliance with applicable codes and standards.
- Provide technical leadership and welding process support across multiple manufacturing plants.
- Analyze welding, metallurgical, and fabrication issues using root cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
- Supervise and audit welding operations to ensure adherence to approved procedures and quality expectations.
- Partner with Quality and Engineering teams to maintain ISO 9001 and ISO 3834-2 compliance.
- Lead OEM readiness activities including APQP, PPAP, dimensional validation, and process capability studies.
- Manage OEM claims using structured problem-solving methodologies such as 8D, A3, and 5 Whys.
- Monitor and improve internal process quality using SPC, PFMEA, and real-time quality dashboards.
- Research, evaluate, and recommend new welding technologies, equipment, and automation solutions.
- Provide training, mentorship, and technical guidance to welding personnel to support skill development and procedural compliance.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field required;
Master’s degree preferred. - Certified Welding Engineer (CWE) or Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) required.
- 2+ years of experience in manufacturing engineering, welding engineering, or quality leadership roles.
