The Career Advisor provides comprehensive career development and professional employment services to students and alumni interested in various careers through career-related advising, assessment, resume approval, individual student job search assistance, and development and delivery of workshops/classes on a variety of career topics.
Responsibilities- Functions as a Career Advisor for assigned student and/or Alumni clients. Advises and assesses on career-related issues.
- Approves resumes and assists individual students with job searches.
- Develops and delivers workshops and classes on a variety of career topics.
- Serves as the administrator for the Denise and Chandler Root Crimson Career Closet.
- Liaises with assigned student organizations, academic departments, and other university departments.
- Increases knowledge of campus recruiting software, identifies and reviews print and web-based career resources, and contributes to the continued development of the Center’s website.
- Coordinates efforts with Career Center staff and other university units when appropriate.
- Maintains knowledge of current trends and future developments in the career services area.
- Assists with planning, development, and organization of special events, printed materials, and web-based materials for the Career Center as needed.
- Serves on a variety of committees as needed.
- Responsible for completing required training and promoting a safe, hospitable, and respectful workplace.
- Responsible for holding staff accountable for completion of required training.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or higher and some experience.
Skills and Knowledge- Effective written and oral communication skills with students, alumni, faculty, and employers.
- Positive public relations skills and strong interpersonal and presentation skills.
- Creative thinking, exceptional organizational, and problem solving skills.
- Knowledge of current trends and future developments in the career services area.
- Knowledge of computers and various software programs (data management, word processing, event management, and group presentations).
- Ability to collaborate with others for group presentations and to establish effective timelines to achieve satisfactory results.
- Demonstrates commitment to supporting all students.
Bachelor's degree or higher with one (1) year of experience in career services, student services, business, human resources management, or counseling; OR a Master’s degree. Strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills. Two (2) years in university Career Services area. Knowledge of career theory and student development theory. Experience supervising students.
