Overview
The University of Alabama, College of Engineering invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (MTE). Candidates with research emphasis in solidification science and metal casting are of particular interest. This posting is specific to the rank of Assistant Professor. ResponsibilitiesDemonstrate potential to develop, lead, and extramurally fund a productive research program with scholarly impact. Collaborate with faculty within the MTE Department and College of Engineering, and with other campus colleagues. Develop and teach courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels in the candidate’s area(s) of expertise and contribute to core degree program delivery and accreditation. Contribute to teaching, research, and service missions of the department, college, and university, and support a collegial, welcoming, and inclusive community.
Minimum Qualifications- Earned Ph.D. in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, or a closely related discipline from an accredited institution.
- Demonstrated record of prior research and impactful scholarly publications in refereed journals, conference proceedings, and related venues, particularly in metal casting and solidification science.
- Interest and/or record in metallurgical engineering, materials science and engineering, and/or materials science education and professional service in area(s) of specialization.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Potential to construct and sustain a quality research program.
- Potential for excellent teaching at both the graduate and undergraduate levels.
Applicants must also meet all university criteria for appointment to the rank of Assistant Professor.
Preferred Qualifications- Record of high-quality research and scholarly publications recognized nationally and/or internationally.
- Significant scholarship in metallurgical engineering, materials science, or related department with undergraduate and graduate programs.
- Post-doctoral or equivalent experience.
- Exceptional collegial, interpersonal, and mentoring skills.
Required documents include: (1) cover letter naming the department and rank, (2) a resume/CV, (3) a 4–6 page statement of research interests and plans, (4) a 1–2 page statement of teaching interests and plans, and (5) contact information for at least four references.
