Monday - Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm
The Academic Advisor I provides guidance to University students on academic progress, courses, University resources, etc. Identifies courses to be completed in upcoming semesters. Explains University and College policies. May teach compass course as needed.
Additional Department SummaryThe Academic Advisor is responsible for providing assistance to students through the development of an academic program plan, and recommending courses that fulfill the requirements of the chosen major and degree program; and conducting Bama Bound orientation throughout the year. The Academic Advisor may be responsible for performing administrative duties and maintaining student records.
RequiredMinimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or higher.
Skills and KnowledgeAbility to work with various groups of people, including the student population and external constituents. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Public speaking skills. Computer skills to include word processing, spreadsheet and/or database management. Good planning, coordinating, and organizing skills. Good analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to read and interpret policies and procedures.
Preferred QualificationsKnowledge of and/or experience with the Department of Human Nutrition, Hospitality and Sport Management and/or CHES.
