Insight Global is looking for an Estimator to join a construction client in the Tuscaloosa, AL area. Our ideal candidate for a Preconstruction Estimator is someone with 2+ years of experience who is a self-starter with experience in mechanical systems and the capability to estimate projects valued up to $5 million.
Primary responsibilities for Preconstruction Estimator include:Analyzing project plans, specifications, and contract documents to identify project requirements and scope of work.
Collaborating with project managers, engineers, and clients to understand project objectives, timelines, and budget constraints.
Conducting thorough take-offs, material, and labor cost estimates.
Preparing detailed bid proposals for HVAC, piping, sheet metal, and plumbing projects.
Sourcing and soliciting subcontractor and vendor quotes to obtain accurate pricing for materials, equipment, and services.
Assessing project risks and identifying potential cost‑saving opportunities while maintaining quality standards.
Participating in pre‑bid meetings, site visits, and subcontractor negotiations as needed.
Staying up to date on industry trends, market conditions, and regulatory changes that may impact project costs and bidding strategies.
Required Skills & ExperiencePrimary qualifications for Preconstruction Estimator include:
- Proven experience as an Estimator in the mechanical contracting industry with a focus on HVAC, piping, sheet metal, and plumbing projects.
- Knowledge of mechanical systems, construction methods, and industry best practices.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
- Strong analytical and mathematical skills, with the ability to perform detailed take‑offs and cost calculations accurately.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet timelines.
- Proficiency in estimating retrofit and remodel projects based on conceptual design.
- Proficiency in Fast Pipe, Fast Duct, Quote Soft or similar on‑screen take‑off software is preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
Job Type: 6‑month contract to potential hire opportunity
Hourly Pay: $28-$32/hr
Exact compensation may vary based on several factors, including skills, experience, and education. Benefit packages for this role will start on the 31st day of employment and include medical, dental, and vision insurance, as well as HSA, FSA, and DCFSA account options, and 401k retirement account access with employer matching. Employees in this role are also entitled to paid sick leave and/or other paid time off as provided by applicable law.
