Job Description & How to Apply Below

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Conduct on-site inspections of elevator, escalator, and moving walkway installations at all stages—from initial construction through project completion.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, specifications, safety codes (ASME A17.1/A17.2), and contract documents to verify that all vertical transportation work is performed in full compliance.
  • Assist in obtaining approved designs, utility clearances, and permits related to E&E power supply, emergency communication systems, and equipment rooms within rail facilities.
  • Monitor job sites for safety compliance, including proper lockout/tagout procedures, hoistway protection, pit conditions, and machinery-space safety.
  • Prepare Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) for any deviations observed in installation quality, safety practices, or technical conformance.
  • Maintain detailed daily inspection logs, field reports, and equipment condition assessments.
  • Review or prepare interim progress reports for contractor payments. Monitor and document contractor-testing activities, equipment installation status, testing milestones, and contractor performance. Prepare reports on labor, material, and equipment on site.
  • Oversee contractor testing activities, including step/skirt performance, handrail speed tests, braking force verification, governor overspeed tests, and elevator Category 1 & 5 inspections.
  • Document and verify labor, materials, and equipment used on site, ensuring compliance with specifications and contract requirements.
  • Provide follow-up inspections to confirm corrective actions on previously issued NCRs.
  • Support and promote a safe work environment that aligns with all agency safety rules, policies, and rail-transit operational requirements.
  • Coordinate inspection cost estimates, maintenance documentation, and equipment condition tracking.
  • Arrange and oversee technical inspections of elevator and escalator systems for conformance to contract requirements, including machinery, controllers, drive systems, safety circuits, and structural support elements.
  • Coordinate with Metro testing laboratories and independent testing laboratories for component verification testing (e.g., traction steel, braking materials, electrical components) and compare results with contractor-provided data.
  • May supervise other inspectors and allocate inspection resources across multiple vertical-transportation project sites.
  • Participate in construction, safety, commissioning, and coordination meetings as required.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical coursework in electrical or mechanical engineering preferred.
  • Approximately ten (10) years of experience in elevator and/or escalator installation, inspection, maintenance, or modernization, ideally within rail-transit, transportation hubs, or large commercial/industrial facilities.
  • Experience in vertical transportation within major infrastructure projects such as transit stations, terminals, or heavy-construction environments.
  • Certifications such as QEI (Qualified Elevator Inspector), CET (Certified Elevator Technician), or relevant ICC/ICBO/NICET credentials highly desirable.
  • OSHA 30 or Cal-OSHA safety certification required.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret engineering plans, wiring diagrams, and technical specifications specific to elevator and escalator systems.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of safety codes including ASME A17.1/A17.2, NFPA electrical standards, and rail-transit facility safety requirements.
  • Ability to prepare clear written reports, inspection documentation, NCRs, and progress assessments.
  • Strong organizational skills and familiarity with digital reporting tools and standard office software.
