Job Summary

The Graduate Registered Nurse at North Mississippi Health Services is responsible for using the nursing process to provide safe, quality patient care, communicating effectively with the multidisciplinary team, and complying with regulatory requirements. The role requires effective leadership skills, problem‑solving abilities, and the ability to respond to rapidly changing patient needs.

Job Functions
  • Uses the nursing process to provide safe, quality patient care and document accordingly.
  • Works to ensure compliance with all NMHS policies and requirements as directed by the Nurse Manager and Educator.
  • Provides patient/family education and serves as a resource for staff and new employees.
  • Participates in the Preceptor class to ensure proper training of new employees.
  • Maintains communication with the multidisciplinary team and attends daily huddles on each unit to ensure proper assignments and identify team members for the shift.
  • Projects a caring, friendly, and helpful image to patients and other customers.
  • Utilizes the patient’s communication board to identify name, date, goals, and procedures for the day to keep patients and families informed.
  • Complies with NMHS behavioral standards.
  • Maintains competency by staying informed of changing trends in nursing practice.
  • Attends annual reviews and unit‑specific training within the department.
  • Performs required continuing education hours online and in classroom.
  • Complies with regulatory and accrediting agency requirements.
  • Is licensed by the Board of Nursing for the state.
Qualifications Education
  • Associate's Degree in Nursing (required).
Licenses and Certifications
  • RN – Registered Nurse, state licensure or compact.
  • CPR – Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation.
  • NIH Stroke Scale Certification.
  • PALS – Pediatric Advanced Life Support.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Maintains department requirements for continuing education and any specific unit requirements.
  • Effectively communicates and teaches patients, families, and staff.
  • General knowledge of various regulatory and accrediting standards.
  • Prioritizes, delegates, and evaluates work assignments.
  • Anticipates resources needed.
  • Assimilates data and reports appropriately.
  • Orients new employees to the unit and reports progress to the charge nurse or nurse manager.
  • Demonstrates effective interpersonal skills with all customers and co‑workers, and in all aspects of patient care and job performance.
