The Manager–Nurse at North Mississippi Health Services, in the Nursing Services department, plays a crucial role in coordinating MENU staff development, performance improvement, resource asset management, and effective communication. He/she is responsible for maintaining a positive patient‑ and family‑centered care environment, complying with regulatory requirements, and managing budgets while ensuring adequate staffing levels to meet patient care needs. As a manager of people, this role supervises a team and optimizes operations within a designated department or area,(exchange), ensuring productivity and effective team management.
JobFunctions
- Assist and support all human resources functions for the nursing service, including onboarding, termination, and disciplinary action; maintain appropriate documentation and ensure compliance with all NMHS policies and requirements.
- Ensure that staffing levels and coverage are adequate to meet patient care and regulatory requirementsolla.
- Assume managerial duties for performance evaluations and maintain systems to provide regular feedback and evaluation for employees (e.g., 90‑day, mid‑year, and year‑end evaluations).
- Work closely with nursing leadership and ancillary departments to maintain a positive patient‑ and family‑centered care environment within NMHS and its affiliates.
- Assist the Director of Nursing and Chief Nursing Officer with developing Clinton staff training and development programs to meet continuing education and contractual requirements and further the knowledge of medical care in a team environment.
- Organize and manage nursing service activities of the unit in compliance with the medical planکن, regulatory, and accrediting agency standards.
- Coordinate and schedule educational classes and other training needs with clinical nurse educators.
- 24‑hour accountability for supervising and evaluating work performance in terms of patient care, unit relations, and efficiency of service; making decisions that require expert clinical judgement.
- Assess results of performance‑improvement indicators; develop and refer programs based on data to improve quality of care; perform chart audits and coach employees on needed areas for improvement.
- Act as a liaison between staff and other disciplines to assist in problem‑solving and transfer information to improve patient care; act as a clinical resource in assigned areas; prepare short‑ and long‑term planning to address needs; serve on decision‑making committees.
- Create and maintain good rapport within departments, affiliates, and other health services; maintain communication with multidisciplinary team members to provide holistic care to patients; be available to staff beyond typical hours, 24 hrs/day.
- Maintain and review educational records of assigned floor employees (orientation competency, initial competencies, annual review, and certifications).
- Perform research steps (identify problem/question; find background; consult peers; identify best‑practice sources; write/publish findings; cite sources). Identify deviations from current best practices; follow‑up; assist providers with implementing changes; present findings to key participants; disseminate findings to all personnel.
- Project a caring, friendly and helpful image to patients and customers; perform leader rounding to improve satisfaction and follow up with concerns.
- Ensure patient experience goals, clinical goals, and quality standards are met; provide emotional, psychological, and spiritual support; monitor satisfaction scores and implement improvement plans.
- Stay informed of trends in nursing practice and evidence‑based practices; participate in the servant‑leadership curriculum; attend conferences, classes, webinars, and computer‑based learning.
- Comply with regulatory and accrediting agency requirements; promote survey‑readiness through interdisciplinary rounding.
