Job SummaryThe RN at North Mississippi Health Services Systems is responsible for providing safe, quality patient care, maintaining effective communication with the multidisciplinary team, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. Leadership skills in prioritizing, delegating, and evaluating work assignments, along with effective problem‑solving abilities, are essential to respond to changing patient needs.
Clinical Practice / Job Functions- Uses the nursing process to provide safe, quality patient care and document accordingly.
- Works to ensure compliance with all NMHS policies and requirements as directed by the Nurse Manager and Educator.
- Provides patient/family education and serves as a resource for existing staff and new employees.
- Participates in the Preceptor class to ensure proper training of new employees.
- Maintains communication with multidisciplinary team members to provide holistic care to the patient.
- Attends daily huddles on each unit to ensure proper assignments and identify team members for the shift.
- Projects a caring, friendly, and helpful image to patients and other customers.
- Utilizes the patient’s communication board to inform patients and families about goals, staff, and procedures.
- Complies with NMHS behavioral standards.
- Maintains competency by staying informed of changing trends in nursing practice.
- Attends annual review and unit‑specific meetings within the department.
- Performs required continuing education hours online and in classroom.
- Complies with regulatory and accrediting agency requirements.
- Is licensed by the Board of Nursing for the state.
- Associate's Degree in Nursing. Required.
- Complete RN Orientation and approved unit‑specific checklist requirements. Required.
- RN – State Licensure or Compact State Licensure.
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS).
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
- NIH Stroke Scale Certification.
Skills and Abilities
- Maintain department requirements for continuing education and unit‑specific requirements.
- Effective communication and teaching skills.
- General knowledge of regulatory and accrediting standards.
- Prioritize, delegate, and evaluate work assignments.
- Anticipate resources needed.
- Assimilate data and reports appropriately.
- Orient new employees and report progress to charge nurse or nurse manager.
- Demonstrate effective interpersonal skills with physicians, ancillary personnel, other nursing personnel, patients, family, and visitors.
