Registered Nurse, Surgery – North Mississippi Health Services

• Uses the nursing process to provide safe, quality care for patients during the intraoperative period.
• Works to ensure compliance with all NMHS policies and requirements as directed by the Nurse Manager and Educator.
• Monitors sterility and applies sterile technique during the intraoperative period.
• Performs and documents ongoing assessments related to patients and surgical equipment/supplies.
• Provides patient/family education and keeps them informed about surgical procedures.
• Acts as a resource for existing staff and new employees.
• Participates in the Preceptor class to ensure proper training of new employees.
• Maintains communication with multidisciplinary team members to provide holistic care to the patient.
• Attends daily huddles on each unit to ensure proper assignments and identify team members for the shift.
• Projects a caring, friendly, and helpful image to patients and other customers.
• Keeps patients and families informed during the intraoperative phase of care.
• Complies with NMHS behavioral standards.
• Maintains competency by staying informed of changing trends in nursing practice.
• Completes yearly competencies related to surgical procedures, equipment, supplies, etc.
• Attends annual reviews and unit-specific meetings within the department.
• Attends and participates in regularly scheduled in‑services within the department.
• Performs required continuing education hours online and in classroom.
• Complies with regulatory and accrediting agency requirements.
• Is licensed by the board of Nursing for the state.

Education:

Associate’s Degree Nursing Required;
Bachelor’s Degree BSN Preferred.
