Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and professional Corrections and Custody Officer 4 (CO4)– Extradition Lieutenant (LT) to join the Transportation unit. This role requires strong communication, relationship skills and the ability to handle urgent matters with patience and calmness.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct nationwide armed transports of male and female prisoners to and from county jails and correctional facilities throughout the United States.
  • Navigate federal “Flying While Armed” procedures, produce unique numbers for each travel segment.
  • Coordinate offender custody transfer with holding agencies and courts, managing travel times and routes.
  • Conduct searches of incarcerated individuals, their property, vehicles, and areas per policy and evidence procedures.
  • Direct compliant, uncooperative, or hostile individuals to maintain discipline, applying physical restraints and force as needed.
  • Manage and direct special teams during high‑risk transports.
  • Use physical or deadly force to prevent escape, capture escapees, and protect human life.
  • Provide flight deck and cabin security on commercial airlines during emergent circumstances.
  • Make unsupervised decisions for custody and travel situations while traveling out of state.
  • Maintain flight crew safety, abide by Federal Aviation regulations and airline tariff regulations regarding transport of prisoners and firearms.

Qualifications – Required

  • High School Diploma or GED and five (5) years of correctional or custody experience working with incarcerated individuals daily.
  • Either two (2) years supervisory experience with one year armed transport experience, OR three (3) years as a member of a specialty team with armed, high‑security transports, OR five (5) years experience as an armed DOC Community Corrections Officer handling arrest, search, and transports, OR five (5) years experience as a DOC Correctional Officer 2 with majority duties involving armed transports in community.
  • Valid Washington State driver’s license.
  • Carry DOC‑issued firearm in compliance with DOC, DHS, TSA, FAA regulations and CFR.
  • Store state‑issued weapon and security safe during non‑work hours.
  • Use physical and/or deadly force as required.
  • Stand, sit, or walk while remaining alert for extended periods.
  • Drive state and rental vehicles long distances legally in all‑weather situations and various terrains.
  • Maintain reliable attendance and lift up to 40 lbs.
  • Make sound decisions while traveling unsupervised using DOC purchase cards and equipment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficient in OMNI database, OnBASE, JBRS, Vine Link and other electronic databases.
  • Specialty team involvement.
  • Experience supervising armed transport teams.
  • Experience working with laws and policies closely related to armed transports and/or extradition.
  • Certified instructor in firearms or defensive tactics.
