Purpose Statement:

The job of Certified Speech Language Pathologist is done for the purpose/s of identifying students with communication disabilities; planning and implementing appropriate treatment to minimize adverse impact on student success; recommending treatment plans; and providing direction to Communication Therapy Aides.

This job reports to Senior Director - Special Education Cooperative

Essential Functions:
  • Assesses student communication skills (e.g. articulation, hearing, voice, expressive and receptive language, etc.) for the purpose of identifying communication disorders, determining program eligibility, and developing recommendations for treatment.
  • Collaborates with a variety of groups and individuals (e.g. parents, teachers, physicians, administration, etc.) for the purpose of communicating information, resolving issues, making recommendations, and providing services in conformance with established guidelines.
  • Develops a variety of programs, plans, and related materials (e.g. treatment plans, interventions, educational information, etc.) for the purpose of addressing communication disorders while complying with district, state, and federal policies and regulations.
  • Directs assigned Communication Therapy Aides for the purpose of providing guidance and ensuring that program objectives are achieved.
  • Facilitates a variety of meetings (e.g. training, IEPs, team meetings, parent conferences, etc.) for the purpose of conveying and gathering information.
  • Instructs eligible students in the use of appropriate communication technologies (e.g. hearing aids, FM systems, augmentative communication devices, etc.) for the purpose of minimizing the adverse educational impact of communication disorders while complying with district, state, and federal policies and regulations.
  • Interprets medical reports within the scope of K-12 learning environment for the purpose of ensuring that treatment and intervention plans are appropriate while complying with district, state, and federal policies and regulations.
  • Maintains a variety of equipment and records (e.g. progress reports, activity logs, special equipment, treatment plans, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the availability of resources necessary for implementing treatment while complying with district, state, and federal policies and regulations.
  • Performs site visits at multiple work sites (e.g. home visits, member district sites, etc.) for the purpose of providing therapy and assistance as required and where needed.
  • Prepares a wide variety of written materials (e.g. activity logs, treatment plans, Medicaid billings, reports, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference, and conveying information.
  • Provides speech and language therapy to students for the purpose of minimizing the adverse impact of speech and language disorders on student success.
