Job Highlights

The Department of Labor & Industries (L&I) is a diverse state agency dedicated to the safety, health, and security of Washington's workers. We help employers meet safety and health standards and inspect workplaces when alerted to hazards. As administrators of the state's workers' compensation system, we administer medical and wage-replacement coverage to injured workers who suffer job-related injuries and illness. Our rules and enforcement programs also help ensure workers are paid what they are owed, that children and teens' work hours are limited, and that consumers are protected from unsound business practices.

Occupational

Within the Insurance Services division, the Office of the Medical Director is looking for an Occupational Nurse Consultant (ONC) who can provide recommendations to claim adjudication staff in order to promote and maintain proper and necessary health care for injured workers. • Review claim files to compile an accurate record of the medical interventions and the worker’s response to those interventions.
  • Consult with members of other professional disciplines to improve the standard of care for workers.
  • Communicate recommendations verbally and in writing to claim staff and medical providers on proper and necessary treatment for the allowed industrial injury or occupational disease.
  • Authorize home health care, skilled nursing facility admission, infusion therapy, residential care, hospice care, and nurse delegation services.
  • Review occupational disease claims to determine if work activities could have contributed to the development of an occupational disease.
  • Review claims and use resources such as RCW, WAC, department policies, medical treatment guidelines, and coverage decisions to determine if requested treatment is proper and necessary for an allowed condition resulting from an industrial injury or occupational disease.
  • And much more!
