Want to join something GREAT and make a difference? The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has an exciting opportunity within our Wildland Fire Management Division as the Wildfire Preparedness Coordinator.
Responsibilities- Manage DNR’s preseason agreement application and approval process.
- Communicate with contractors and DNR staff; answer questions and review applications related to operations, logistics, and crews.
- Execute preseason agreements and disseminate them to required parties.
- Prepare the Division’s casual hire letters and manage the hiring process.
- Coordinate with the DNR Coordination Center (DNRCC) staff to dispatch Incident Management Teams, firefighting and support resources, overhead, equipment, crews, and supplies.
- Work primarily in the DNR Coordination Center during fire season; assignments outside the center may be considered on a case‑by‑case basis.
- Minimal travel may be required, possibly up to 10 nights per year, including overnight accommodations.
- One of: AA degree or equivalent trade school credits in a natural resources field, or a suitable combination of education and professional experience working with the public, contracts/agreements, or related fields.
- Experience updating and maintaining contracts/agreements and spreadsheets.
- Ability to prioritize, multitask, and make decisions in a fast‑paced, stressful environment while maintaining professionalism.
- Completed FEMA courses: ICS 100, 200, 700, and 800.
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills with co‑workers, partner agency employees, and the general public.
- Strong professional writing skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office programs.
- Independently resolve problems using judgment.
- Strong emotional intelligence skills, including preserving confidence and self‑esteem, recognizing differences as learning opportunities, establishing constructive relationships, focusing on issues not people, taking initiative, and modeling appropriate behaviors.

- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (Natural Resources, Emergency Management, Contract Management, etc.).
- One year of experience working at a wildland fire agency with knowledge of incident dispatch, travel processes, and procedures.
- Completion of IS‑230.E, IS‑240.C, IS‑241.C, IS‑242.C, L‑180 Human Factors in the Wildland Fire Service.
- Knowledge of the Interagency Resource Ordering Capability (IROC) dispatch program.
