Position OverviewMobile Diesel & Trailer Technician responsible for DOT inspections, preventive maintenance, light and follow‑up repairs, diagnostics, and related duties. Works under the supervision of a Senior Mobile Diesel Technician or higher, continuously learning advanced skills and achieving high performance metrics.
Responsibilities- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance, DOT inspections, and follow‑up repairs on light, medium, and heavy‑duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment.
- Make minor adjustments and repairs on truck equipment such as electrical, brake, cooling systems, starters, alternators, fans, engine electronics, steering systems, transmissions, clutches, and differentials.
- Repair trailer equipment including aluminum and chem‑lite construction, brakes, air lines, auxiliary pumps, engines, liftgates, brake chambers, welding, fabrication, and replacement of panels or frames.
- Diagnose, adjust, and repair truck and trailer equipment using test instruments (handheld computers, pressure gauges, etc.) and road testing.
- Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to identify malfunctions and generate solutions.
- Manage parts inventory, conduct periodic reconciliation, and maintain company‑issued service vehicles with safety checks and pre/post‑trip inspections.
- Communicate effectively with clients and customers, provide information, resolve problems, and satisfy expectations.
- Prioritize concurrent tasks, allocate time, and work independently while maintaining a high level of productivity.
- Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, lifts, and jacks to perform repairs.
- Document work on Repair Orders using company iOS device and the TRAIT application.
- Complete DOT forms and other required documentation timely.
- Obtain parts from approved vendors as needed.
- Communicate with management and support teams via email or phone for approvals, purchase orders, and repair notes.
- Work in compliance with safety, health, environmental policies, OSHA, EPA, and DOT regulations.
- High School Diploma or GED with at least 3 years of related experience (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
- Possess a set of hand tools necessary to perform required duties.
- Obtain Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification T8 (PMI) within 18 months.
- Pass DOT‑regulated background screening and DOT physical (or submit a valid DOT medical card with >4 months validity).
- Be at least 21 years old.
- Hold a valid state driver’s license and maintain a Driver Qualification File; 3‑year MVR review required.
