Labor - Maintenance II - O'Brien Park

Job Summary

Under general supervision, this role involves manual, semi‑skilled, and limited‑skilled work in the care, maintenance, and repair of County parks and park facilities, including the following duties.

• Perform semi‑skilled carpentry, plumbing, electrical, masonry, and other tasks.
• Lay water services pipes and open clogged sewers.
• Operate tractors with mowing attachments and other light automotive equipment.
• Operate various types of power equipment and hand tools.
• Paint facilities.
• Repair fences.
• Plant, maintain, trim, and remove ornamental plants, grasses, shrubs, and trees.
• Spray pesticides, herbicides, and water landscape areas.
• Clean and maintain equipment and tools.
• Provide routine maintenance on equipment; build forms for concrete work, mix and finish concrete; and perform manual cleanup of park area.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
Skill in operating tractors with mowing attachments and other light automotive equipment; operating various types of power equipment and hand tools; operating chemical application equipment and leading community service workers.

Knowledge of common practices, methods, tools, and materials of varied, semi‑skilled maintenance construction work; awareness of hazards, safety precautions, and general park maintenance.

Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions; perform heavy manual labor for extended periods; use hand and mechanical tools and equipment; develop skills in assigned operations; operate tractors and other light automotive equipment; read and understand chemical labels.

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Completion of the eighth grade and over one year of experience as a laborer performing maintenance and/or construction work.

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos; ability to write simple correspondence; ability to effectively present information in one‑on‑one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions; ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Valid Oklahoma Driver's License

Oklahoma Chemical Technician License

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit and climb or balance. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
