Position: Site Exit - Central Office Tech (Travel)

* Description
* This is a travel-based position, and the person must be willing to be away for up to weeks at a time. Sites will be all west of the Mississippi, primarily in the central portion of the US. Candidates based near hubs in TX and IL will help minimize the travel.
This project is to assist with site exit efforts. To start the engineering process, they need to conduct a thorough audit of the existing facilities and decommission equipment. They would like our help with providing resources to conduct the harvesting and decommissioning. Some of the work will require working on lifts.
There will be pre-wiring work in preparation for circuit grooms and support through the migration efforts. This is the process of moving live customer circuits from legacy equipment to other legacy equipment or new equipment.
Central Office technicians have this kind of experience. This work will primarily be done during the day inside of COs and warehouse environments.
The work week will be Sunday night through Friday morning. There will be occasional overnight work for cutovers
This is a 2-year-plus project
Below are details about the kind of information this technician will collect for the audit portion of the project.
1.1 General Cable Audit Services
Infinera/Coriant to provide a physical Network Element (NE) facility "point to point" audit, which includes: (Equipment includes ADMs, DCS, DWDM, and Data Systems)

* Coax Cabling
o Equipment to DSX-3 equipment side information to be included in the Detailed Inventory EXCEL spreadsheet and verified onsite
o Identifies DSX-3 to DSX-3 cross-connections

* Fiber Facilities
o Verify all fiber connections within the Century Link space with the Fiber Finder test equipment
o Fibers with below
-46db light present will not be audited
o If there is a fiber with light connected, then document what the fiber is connected to (e.g., equipment and port) and Light Level status in the Detailed Inventory EXCEL spreadsheet and verified onsite
o If access to fibers on the backside of a panel would place traffic at risk, flag and advise Century Link
o Identify Fiber Panel type. (EQPT, Riser, OSP, etc.)
o Verify all equipment ports, with facilities connected, are accounted for on the demarcation panel audit
o Include paths for any equipment ports that do not connect to demarcation panels (equipment to equipment facilities)
o Telemetry facilities do not need to be audited
o Riser FDP connections, including the other side of the Riser connection, up to where
Century Link space ceases
o On-site fiber labels will be recorded

* Labels will be added to unlabeled active fibers, with "From" and "To" location information

* CAT5 cabling
o Equipment to end point connections to be included in the Detailed Inventory EXCEL spreadsheet and verified on-site

* DSX-3 Facility Monitoring
o Use a DS3 test equipment to monitor the DS3 signal at the DSX-3 monitor jack.
o Determine if the DS3 circuit status to be in USE or in ALARM and potentially not in use.
1.2 CRE Spreadsheet Column Layout Descriptions
1.2.1 Spreadsheet Column Labeling

* One column for "Century Link Circuit " (PRO, EON, RSI) from label.

* One column for "Notes" (other information) from label.

* If the Circuit  not on the Label, then note "Not on Label" in the approximate column for that fiber. The cell should not be left blank.

* If there is no Label on the fiber or panel, then note "No Label" in the approximate column for that fiber. The cell should not be left blank.

* Do not include the TO and FROM information from the label.
o Use the TO and FROM location information to identify and document the other end of the fiber in the Century Link space
1.2.2 Spreadsheet Column Fiber and Light/Signals

* One column for Fiber Connected - YES or NO

* A separate column for the Light Level
o Normal = above
-34db
o LOW =
-35db TO
-45db
o NO = below
-46db

* Document if a fiber is connected, or not connected, on both sides of the panel (front and back)

* Do not record the fiber direction (I/O, TX/RX).
1.3 Riser Audit Services
1.3.1 CRE Century Link Far-End Riser

* Audit other end of the Riser, up to where Century Link space ceases

* Verify the back side of the Risers correlate between the two ends of the Riser.
1.3.2 CRE Non-Century Link Far-End Riser

* Work with GFS for access to non-Century Link spaces

* Verify the back side of the Risers correlate between the two ends of the Riser

* Verify Light or Below
-46db Light on each fiber

* Document positions with fibers at Far-End Riser

* Compare positions connected at each end to make sure they are correlated
