Field/Service Technician, Telecoms Engineering
Overview
This is a travel‑based contract position located in Tulsa, OK. The technician must be willing to travel west of the Mississippi for up to several weeks at a time, primarily to sites in the central United States. Candidates based near Texas or Illinois hubs are preferred to reduce travel.
The primary goal of the project is to assist with site exit efforts. The technician will conduct thorough audits of existing facilities and perform decommissioning of equipment, including harvesting and removal. Some work requires lifts. The technician will also aid pre‑wiring for circuit grooming and support migration efforts, moving live customer circuits from legacy equipment to new or legacy equipment.
Responsibilities- Travel to COs and warehouse environments for on‑site audits of ADMs, DCS, DWDM, DSX‑3, fiber facilities, CAT5 cabling, and DSX‑3 monitoring.
- Collect detailed inventory data in an Excel spreadsheet, documenting equipment, fiber connections, light levels, and panel connections.
- Verify fiber connectivity using a Fiber Finder, excluding fibers below –46 dB; record light levels and circuit status.
- Perform riser audits, including back‑side correlation and light level checks, and collaborate with GFS for non‑Century Link spaces.
- Provide documentation of 'From' and 'To' locations for each fiber and label unlabeled active fibers.
- Support circuit grooming and migration, including live circuit cuts and overnight cutovers as needed.
- Use OTDR, Excel pivot tables, and other tools to monitor DSX‑3 signals and record outcomes.
- Intermediate level experience with instrumentation, fiber optics, and telecommunications equipment.
- Strong troubleshooting, equipment auditing, technician, router/switch, fiber optic network, SONET, DWDM, and DSX panel skills.
- Proficient data entry and Excel (including pivot tables).
- Experience with OTDR, cable testing, and circuit grooming.
- Excellent attention to detail; knowledge of Central Office protocols.
- Ability to ride a vehicle and use company travel reimbursement up to $100/day for hotel and $80/day for per diem.
- Can accrue mileage at $0.70/mile when using personal vehicle.

Pay and BenefitsHourly pay range: $30.00 – $34.00 per hour.
