This is a safety-sensitive position. Candidates must pass a negative result on a 10-panel, pre-placement drug screen to include THC, prior to beginning work. Tulsa Zoo Management, Inc. (TZMI) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with the mission of “Connecting, Caring, Advocating for Wildlife, People, and Wild Places.” TZMI operates in Tulsa, Oklahoma, delivering recreational opportunities, education, and wildlife care 365 days per year.

Position Summary

The Operations Technician is responsible for performing routine facilities maintenance tasks in one or more fields (e.g., carpentry; electrical; heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC); plumbing; mechanical, etc.).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Complete all Operations work orders as assigned.
  • Perform minor electrical, plumbing, carpentry, painting, masonry and excavation to maintain zoo exhibits, buildings, and grounds.
  • Perform general repair of buildings, exhibits, structures, equipment; perform scheduled preventative maintenance on these as directed.
  • Maintain records and documents of scheduled maintenance or other repairs as required.
  • Perform general fabrication to repair/fabricate animal caging, crates, exhibits; utilize stick, MIG and TIG welding equipment.
  • Replace broken windows; repair doors, door locks and closets; install and repair fencing/public barriers; install and repair concrete or asphalt surfaces; repair mechanical equipment or vehicles, etc.
  • Inspect condition of roofs; clean roof gutters and drains.
  • Inspect and repair interior/exterior lighting; install and repair lamps, ballasts and covers.
  • Move and relocate office furniture, files, etc.; adjust desks, chairs and files as needed.
  • Analyze work orders to determine materials required and methods to complete the task; prepare cost estimates for work orders.
  • Requisition supplies, materials and equipment; monitor inventory; pick up and load/unload supplies.
  • Maintain a clean and clutter-free shop and work areas; perform general cleaning duties.
  • As needed, assist with set up/break down of special/private events including setup of tables, chairs, tents, stage, or other equipment.
  • Utilize a wide array of hand and power tools; maintain tools and equipment in good working order and safe condition.
  • Respond to emergency maintenance requests as directed.

Education and/or Experience

No education requirement; at least two years related experience and/or training.

Language Skills

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients and other employees of TZMI.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money.

Computer Skills

Microsoft Word;
Internet Browser(s) – Explorer, Chrome, Safari, etc.

Other Skills, Abilities Or Qualifications

Must possess a valid driver’s license and be insurable on TZMI’s insurance carrier. Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends or holidays as required. Must…
