Full-time, hourly/nonexempt Safety Sensitive

This is a safety-sensitive position. Regardless of whether you are a medical marijuana licensee, you must receive a negative result on a 10-panel, pre-placement drug screening to include THC, prior to beginning work.

Your Job

Mechanic assists with projects and priorities of the Operations department focusing on maintenance and upkeep of TZMI vehicles including electric and gas-powered golf carts, attractions, and heavy equipment.

  • Inspect zoo automobiles, trucks, golf carts, attractions, and related equipment to locate and determine the extent of necessary repair.
  • Perform general repair work on gasoline, diesel and electric-powered engines such as golf carts, automobiles, trucks, tractors, attractions, and other automotive and mechanical equipment with the goals of minimizing downtime and saving repair costs.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on fleet and attractions according to preset preventative maintenance schedule, consulting with Operations leaders when schedules must be adjusted.
  • Maintain service/maintenance records of vehicles, attractions, and equipment.
  • Inspect, adjust, and replace necessary units and related units.
  • Repair cooling, fuel, electrical, and exhaust systems; tune engines using standard testing equipment.
  • Perform vehicle body work and collision repair.
  • Operate vehicles and equipment to aid in diagnostics; pick up and deliver vehicles.
  • Requisition supplies, parts and equipment; monitor inventory; pick up supplies; load and unload supplies.
  • Maintain clean and clutter-free work areas.
  • Respond to emergency maintenance requests as directed.
  • Effectively communicate and demonstrate interpersonal skills with all levels of employees in a clear and professional manner.
  • Demonstrate and adhere to TZMI’s workplace values.
  • Know and follow zoo policies and procedures, including emergency protocols.
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings and assigned training sessions.
  • Other duties as assigned.

This position has no direct reports.

What We Expect

Required Qualifications ,

Education and/or Experience
  • One to three years related experience and/or training
  • Must be 18 years or older, possess a valid driver’s license, and be insurable on TZMI’s insurance carrier
  • Must be able to work weekends, evenings, and holidays
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; write routine reports and correspondence; communicate effectively before groups of customers, employees of TZMI, and the general public
