Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM (after-hours and weekend participation is common; candidate should be comfortable with this)

Incentives (Sign-on Bonus / Relocation): $10,000 - available only to candidates who live outside a 71-mile radius from the facility and who commit to 2 years of employment

This role coordinates all Epic update activities, including quarterly upgrades, monthly ad-hocs, SPREs, and SUs, which are frequent and often executed after hours. The ideal candidate should have strong project management skills, a solid understanding of Epic system interactions (ODB/IRIS Cogito Chronicles external systems), and familiarity with IT governance frameworks such as ITIL. Key responsibilities include ensuring system uptime, performance, and recovery, anticipating downstream impacts, and providing calm, decisive leadership during upgrades or incidents.

Strong written communication, coaching abilities, and the ability to partner effectively with Info Sec, infrastructure teams, application analysts, clinicians, and executives are essential. Project management experience, familiarity with IT governance frameworks, and technical knowledge of application/integration data structures and Epic system interactions. Interview process includes an initial pre-screen with the Talent Partner, a 30-minute virtual Teams interview, and a final panel interview with key stakeholders.

Duties

Job Summary:

The Manager, EHR Technical Systems is responsible for the technical planning, coordination, and operations of Epic and its ancillary systems regarding the systems' infrastructure components including ODB Administration, Cogito Administration, Epic Client Systems, and SQL Administration. This role manages and leads a team of database administrators and client systems administrators.

Job Responsibilities
  • Changes to IT systems are thoroughly reviewed, approved, implemented, and documented in accordance with established change control procedures.
  • Oversees the design, approval, and implementation of technical projects within the Epic infrastructure environment including disaster recovery planning and testing.
  • Ensures full compliance with enterprise standards and applicable federal/state regulations.
  • Supports staff with work assignments, deliverables, and objectives.
  • Manages IT staffing, including recruitment, supervision, scheduling, development, evaluation, and disciplinary actions.
  • Reviews, coordinates, and establishes vendor/consultant contracts and service agreements.
  • Benchmarks, analyzes, and makes recommendations for the improvement and growth of Epic infrastructure.
  • Assists in the development of capital and operational budgets for the Epic technical environments.
  • Working Relationships:
  • Direct supervision of others.
  • Prepares and gives performance evaluations.
  • Works with internal and/or external customers via telephone or face-to-face interaction.
  • Works with other healthcare professionals and staff.
  • Works frequently with individuals at Director level and above.
Skills Required Skills & Experience
  • Minimum five (5) years of related experience working in a technical EHR/EMR environment.
  • Eight (8) years of enterprise-level experience, in lieu of Bachelor's degree.
  • Functional knowledge of SQL database operations, Epic Operational Database, Epic Client Systems infrastructure, and Epic Analytics products.
  • Knowledge of information technology change control management.
  • Excellent technical/nontechnical oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical ability to solve both business and technical problems with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to analyze complex desktop related issues, identifies patterns, and determine root cause of problems for effective troubleshooting.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple priorities with competing deadlines.
  • Ability to make complex technology issues understandable to others.
