Position Summary:The Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) plays a key role in delivering high-quality, person-centered occupational therapy services that support independence, safety, and quality of life for individuals who are blind or visually impaired. Working under the supervision of a licensed Occupational Therapist, the COTA provides direct instruction, adaptive strategies, functional skills training, and equipment education to clients of all ages throughout Oklahoma.
This position advances New View Oklahoma's Mission to empower individuals with vision loss to achieve maximum independence through exceptional clinical care, rehabilitation, and community education.
Essential duties and responsibilities:Provides clinical patient care by administering appropriate treatment as assigned by the occupational therapist. This includes but is not limited to ADLs, IADLs, work/school activities, leisure activities, home safety, low vision strategies, modifying the task and/or environment, and sensory-based instruction.Instruct patients in the use of adaptive equipment, assistive technology, and low vision devices (e.g., task lighting, magnifiers, tactile labeling systems, adaptive kitchen equipment).Provides documentation of vision related skilled services by maintaining appropriate treatment records. Supports development and implementation of patient-centered service plans and goals.Provides expert instructions to patients, families, and students – if applicable.Responsible for upkeep of equipment and resource materials. Schedules and prioritizes daily work assignments. Consistently clocks in and out in accordance with rehab departmental standards.Maintains accurate, timely, and compliant documentation within the electronic medical record (EMR) system, including daily progress notes, adaptive equipment inventories, and discharge summaries.Assists with data tracking for grant deliverables, state contracts, insurance billing, and organizational outcomes reporting.Collaboration & Team Engagement.Works as part of an interdisciplinary team including OT, Orientation & Mobility, Assistive Technology, Social Services, and Low Vision Optometry.Communicates patient progress, barriers, and needs with supervisor and team members.Participates in case staffing, program development discussions, and team meetings.Community Education & Advocacy.Represents New View Oklahoma in professional, community, and outreach settings by providing education on blindness, low vision rehabilitation, accessibility tools, and the value of independent living services.Primary location in OKC or Tulsa with occasional statewide travel. Must have dependable transportation and/or transportation resources in case one is visually impaired.May include in-clinic, in-home, community-based, or virtual service delivery.Requires flexibility and comfort working in varied environments and with assistive devices.Supports in-house and off-site workshops, demonstrations, and community partnerships.Maintains therapy spaces, equipment, and inventory in accordance with safety standards.Follows all safety, infection control, HIPAA, and organizational policies.Performs other tasks as directed.Qualifications (Minimum education, experience, training, licensure, certification):
Required
- Associate's Degree from an accredited Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant program.
- Bachelors Degree for an accredited college.
- Current COTA license and certification in good standing.
- Minimum 1 year of experience in occupational therapy or rehabilitation setting.
