Night Shift Blood Bank Lead Medical Technologist – Full Time, Nights
Location:
Tulsa, Oklahoma 74136 — Blood Bank - Yale Campus
Job Summary:
Performs medical laboratory testing and supervisory duties designated by the supervisor.
- Receives, prioritizes, and processes specimens and requisitions to meet or exceed turnaround time standards. Verifies specimen identification and labeling. Determines if specimens are acceptable for analysis and documents discrepancies for quality assurance.
- Willingly assists other employees in the department during times of high volume testing.
- Determines if specimen collection is required and completes blood component transfusion utilization forms. Performs and documents blood component processing per established procedures. Provides appropriate platelet and plasma components as requested. Documents special component needs in transfusion service information systems (TSIS).
- Reviews and confirms recipient and donor information at the time of blood component issue. Maintains adequate blood component inventory and uses inventory effectively.
- Performs testing according to established procedures, organizes work for maximum efficiency, and maintains accuracy under stress. Demonstrates knowledge of technical and instrumental procedures and repeats tests as needed when results are questionable.
- Maintains a clean, uncluttered work area; uses required PPE and adheres to safety practices. Works independently with minimal supervision and manages time efficiently.
- Reviews testing results, quality control, and equipment maintenance. Performs routine instrument maintenance and quality control daily without supervision, recognizes problems, implements corrective actions, and informs supervision as appropriate.
- Assumes responsibility for the management of the section in the absence of the supervisor; communicates work-related information to section personnel, other laboratory sections, and management. Works with hospital staff to resolve problems and supports implementation of changes in the department.
- Writes technical procedures as needed and works with medical laboratory science students during educational activities.
- Minimum Education: Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology or in a related Biological/Chemical Science from an accredited college or university.
- Licensure/Registration/Certification: Must have passed national certification exam as a laboratory scientist that is accredited by an approved agency.
- Work Experience: 1 year related experience with high complexity testing.
- Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: PC basic skills to enter data and use computer systems; strong interpersonal, leadership, and communication abilities; good organizational skills.
- Decision Making:
Independent judgment in planning sequence of operations and making minor decisions in a complex technical or professional field. - Working Relationships:
Coordinates activities of others (does not supervise). Leads others in the same work without supervisory authority; interacts with patients, internal and external customers, and other healthcare professionals. - Special Job Dimensions:
