Under indirect supervision, provides rehabilitative and developmental therapy and support services for residents. Directs resident participation in selected tasks to restore, reinforce, and enhance performance; facilitates learning of skills essential for adaptation and productivity, correct pathology, and promote health.

• Tests and evaluates residents for therapy and support needs, assessing availability of in-clinic or on-site facilities, equipment, and services.
• Plans, organizes, and conducts occupational therapy programs designed to help residents regain physical or mental functioning or adjust to disabilities.
• Treats, educates, and counsels residents and families regarding specific physical, mental, and developmental disabilities.
• Monitors resident progress throughout treatment; prepares and maintains records and reports, ensuring adherence to procedural safeguards and confidentiality.
• Participates in training medical and nursing personnel in occupational therapy techniques and objectives.
• Conducts and documents a thorough functional assessment of the resident utilizing standardized procedures; assesses home/vocational and equipment needs.
• Protects residents from neglect, mistreatment, and abuse.
• Supervises COTA(s) per state guidelines.

• Bachelor of Science Degree in Occupational Therapy
• Current license in state of practice
• Certification, if applicable, and demonstrated competency in identified areas of specialization
• Organized and detailed in work performance
• Good communication skills with excellent self-discipline and patience
• Genuine caring for and interest in elderly and disabled people in a nursing facility
