Clinical Laboratory Scientist - Generalist

Base pay range: $29.89/hr - $44.84/hr

Job Summary

Performs medical laboratory testing and supervisory duties designated by the supervisor.

Job Responsibilities
  • Receive and process specimens, components, and/or requisitions:
    Prioritize and process specimens promptly to meet or exceed turnaround time standards.
  • Verify specimen identification and labeling.
  • Determine if specimens are acceptable for analysis.
  • Identify discrepancies, resolve them, and document for quality assurance.
  • Assist other employees in the department during high-volume testing periods.
  • Complete blood component transfusion utilization forms (BB Only).
  • Perform and document blood component processing according to established procedures.
  • Provide appropriate platelet and plasma components as requested.
  • Document special component needs in transfusion service information systems (TSIS).
  • Review and confirm recipient and donor information at the time of blood component issue.
  • Maintain adequate blood component inventory and use it effectively.
  • Perform testing according to established procedures, organizing work for maximum efficiency, even in stressful situations.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of technical and instrumental procedures.
  • Identify absurd results and repeat tests as needed.
  • Maintain a clean, uncluttered work area and use required personal protective equipment and physical barriers.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision and use time efficiently when work is completed.
  • Review specimen logs for unreceived specimens.
  • Perform patient and component testing according to established procedures (BB Only).
  • Use TSIS efficiently to record testing results and comments.
  • Report accurate test results.
Required Skills & Experience
  • One (1) year of related experience with high complexity testing.
  • Basic PC skills needed to enter data and utilize computers efficiently.
  • Demonstrated skills in interpersonal relations, leadership, and communication.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills.
Education

Required

Education:

Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology or in a related Biological/Chemical Science from an accredited college or university.

Certifications & Licensure

Must have passed a national certification exam as a laboratory scientist accredited by an approved agency.
