The Weld Engineer will play a critical role in supporting welding processes for our metal stamping and metal fabrication operations. This position ensures that all welding activities meet customer, regulatory, and internal quality standards while driving continuous improvement across production lines. The ideal candidate will have strong technical expertise in automotive welding applications and hands‑on experience in a fast‑paced Tier 1 environment.
Key Responsibilities Welding Process Engineering- Develop, optimize, and validate welding processes (MIG, spot welding, projection welding, robotic welding, etc.) for new and existing automotive components.
- Create and maintain weld process documentation, including weld schedules, work instructions, PFMEAs, and control plans.
- Lead welding trials, root cause analysis, and corrective action implementation.
- Ensure compliance with customer and OEM welding specifications, industry standards, and internal quality systems.
- Perform weld inspections, destructive and non‑destructive testing, and metallurgical evaluations as needed.
- Work closely with Quality Engineering to resolve weld‑related issues and support PPAP activities.
- Specify, select, and support installation of welding equipment, tooling, jigs, and fixtures.
- Lead troubleshooting efforts for welding robots, weld cells, power supplies, and related automation.
- Partner with Maintenance to improve equipment reliability and reduce downtime.
- Drive initiatives to improve weld quality, reduce scrap, and enhance process efficiency.
- Support lean manufacturing projects including line balancing, standard work, and waste reduction.
- Implement new welding technologies and automation solutions where applicable.
- Work with Product Engineering to review weld feasibility for new designs.
- Support launch teams during APQP activities and customer program launches.
- Provide technical training to operators, technicians, and production personnel.
- Bachelor’s degree in Welding Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgy, or related field.
- 3+ years of welding engineering experience in an automotive or high‑volume manufacturing environment.
- Strong understanding of welding processes (MIG, resistance welding, robotic welding).
- Knowledge of automotive quality systems (IATF 16949, ISO standards).
- Hands‑on experience with weld testing, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement tools.
- Experience in Tier 1 metal stamping operations.
- Familiarity with GD&T, CAD software, and weld simulation tools.
- AWS Certified Welding Engineer (CWEng), Certified Welding Inspector (CWI), or equivalent credentials.
- Experience with Fanuc, ABB, or Motoman robotic platforms.
- Full-time, on‑site position in Tulsa, OK.
