Primary Purpose

Manage architectural design process for new and existing facilities. Provide technical expertise to ensure quality construction documents.

Major Functions & Responsibilities
  • Provide technical expertise for the development of new facilities and projects (25%).
  • Continually improve and maintain prototype details for building, canopy, fuel systems, and supporting documents.
  • Create unique details for construction documents as needed.
  • Coordinate special items with purchasing for new facilities and projects.
  • Research and ensure code compliance of all plans and specs to protect company interests.
  • Research alternative methods or materials to provide best value.
  • Determine systems and evaluate options to meet project requirements.
  • Ensure project solutions meet the needs of all internal customers.
  • Conduct value‑engineering reviews in coordination with the project team.
  • Coordinate RFIs from active construction/developments into prototypical drawings and documents for future use.
  • Effectively manage architectural and engineering consultant resources, specific to projects where the ADPM is the design lead (20%).
  • Establish deliverables and communication expectations for each design consultant.
  • Negotiate and approve design costs associated with company Scope of Work and change orders.
  • Hold consultants/contractors accountable for work produced.
  • Facilitate training for newly hired consultants/contractors.
  • Provide QA/QC for consultants/contractors work to ensure it meets company standards.
  • Conduct annual evaluations using the Consultant/Contractor Evaluation Form and procedures.
  • Quality control – process, formatting, purpose, and constructability (10%).
  • Develop, review, and maintain internal processes used to manage consultants, customers, and prototypical documents.
  • Provide formatting guidelines for file structure and maintenance.
  • Review all development/change to verify design meets proposed use and is structurally sound and efficient.
  • Construction and project field support / drawing (20%).
  • Partner with Construction and Projects Group regarding drawing organization, detailing, and specifications.
  • Oversee revisions resulting from drawing reviews, FPC, and test facilities; ensure changes are processed via change management procedures.
  • Ensure non‑standard items identified in reviews are communicated to construction, purchasing, supply chain, and other affected parties.
  • Oversee professional consultants and partner with internal customers to assist in compliance with local codes and authorities having jurisdiction.
  • Provide on‑site support and partner with Construction and Projects Group as needed; communicate required changes to drawings and installation documents.
  • Manage the RFI process, providing expert direction to the field promptly.
  • Expedite permit issues/resolutions for real estate, construction, and facilities support related to permitting and code issues (5%).
  • Support the Purchasing Department (5%).
  • Develop and maintain plans and specifications for bid/quote processes (Strategic bid/quote outline).
  • Review and approve shop and vendor drawings for equipment, fixtures, and related special programs for new and existing facilities.
  • Coordinate bid / shop drawings with store signage buyer; review for constructability, liability, and value‑engineering costs.
  • Manage submittal process for facilities as assigned (5%).
  • Maintain submittal requirements and processes associated with facilities.
  • Manage exceptions with professionals of record and construction or projects group to ensure optimal results.
  • Evaluate and assess company risk and liability (5%).
  • Utilize technical expertise to assess short‑term and long‑term risk and liability.
  • Use company processes and procedures to educate all internal and external team members on risk and liability to inform business decisions.
  • During the QA/QC process, ensure all work products, designs, contracts, etc., meet all company regulatory requirements to minimize risks/liability.
