Serve as a liaison to the academic schools in order to provide students with specialized program planning. The Senior Academic Advisor also provides a high degree of Academic Advising knowledge to internal and external stakeholders. Monitor a caseload of students and tracks student progress in an effort to increase retention and completion rates while providing proactive advising services to at risk students.
Meet and advise prospective students who do not have an assigned an advisor or students with time sensitive concerns. Advocates for students by collaborating with college staff and faculty to retain students through graduation and remove barriers to enrollment. Complete advising related tasks which facilitate financial aid, admissions, and enrollment processes.
Essential Duties
Provide Academic Advising Services for assigned Academic Program areas to an identified caseload of students, assisting them with educational and career planning
Serve as a direct liaison to assigned Academic School and/or Academic Programs, including academic administrators, faculty and/or faculty advisors.
Assist students with high level advising functions.
Provide training to faculty advisors in assigned program areas.
Provide computerized degree audits to advisees.
Track student academic progress within the designated case load/student population.
Communicate with a case load of students at designated times each semester, with a focus on student success, retention, and completion.
Refer students to academic support resources such as tutoring labs and/or faculty.
Refer students to personal support services either within the college or in the community.
Make recommendations to the financial aid office on whether course work counts in program for Title IV related aid.
Develop Academic Plans for students which are used to determine Title IV aid eligibility for at risk students.
Initiate and process requests to adjust student's schedules manually according to TCC and state policy.
Accurately process requests to change student majors.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Applied Behavioral Studies, Psychology, Sociology, Child Development, Human Relations, Education, or a related field.
3 years of experience advising college students.
Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to have positive relationships with personnel at all levels.
Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in Applied Behavioral Studies, Psychology, Sociology, Child Development, Human Relations, Education, or a related field.
