Job Description

Position: Native American Education Instructional Assistant

Reports to: Principal and Native American Education Coordinator

Supervises: None

Qualifications

Tier 1:

  • Bachelor's Degree required.

Tier 2:

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Satisfy Every Student Succeeds Act requirements by:
    • Completed at least 2 years of study (48 hrs.) at an institution of higher ed, or
    • Hold an associate’s degree or higher, or
    • Obtained a National Career Readiness Certificate through successful completion of the ACT, Work Keys Assessment, or passed the Paraprofessional Assessment Test - Passing Score is 455, or
    • Passed the Oklahoma General Education (OGET) Test.

Continued Qualifications for Tier 1 and Tier 2:

  • Good interpersonal and communication skills with students and adults required.
  • Computer application skills required.
  • Satisfy all district requirements with regard to physical health and citizenship.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Position Goal: Reinforce core subject instruction for Native American Education students within a variety of instructional settings.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Reinforcements of math, english, reading, social studies, science and other subjects.
  • Works with Native American Education students to reinforce or remediate learning materials and skills initially introduced by the teacher.
  • Assists in the supervision of Native American Education students.
  • Maintains a level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected of certified teachers.
  • Organizes, distributes, collects, and prepares materials, i.e. project materials, student manipulatives, etc.
  • Collaborates with teachers in curricular areas.
  • Assists with a variety of instructional situations.
  • Sends monthly reports to the Native American Education Coordinator.
  • Helps with Native American Education related cultural activites for school site and/or community.
  • Follows Native American Education policy as established in the Native American Education Program & Precedures Handbook.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Nine (9) month classified hourly contract
