Job Description

At the Oklahoma State Department of Education (OSDE), we seek an experienced professional to serve as the Project Director for the Oklahoma Alternate Assessment Program (OAAP). This role manages all facets of the OAAP to ensure successful implementation and compliance with state and federal requirements. The Project Director also supports the State Assessment Office in coordinating student accommodations, ensuring equitable access for all learners.

Please note:

This role requires a consistent, in‑person presence at the designated workplace in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; no remote or hybrid options are available.

Position Overview

The Project Director will shape assessment practices and positively impact educational experiences across Oklahoma for diverse learners. Responsibilities include overseeing day‑to‑day operations, ensuring compliance, engaging stakeholders, and leading continuous improvement efforts.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in education, special education, assessment, or a related field (official transcripts required upon hire).
  • Valid teaching certification in special education or a closely related field.
  • Three (3) years of experience in special education or a closely related field.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with and teaching students with the most significant cognitive disabilities.
  • Experience teaching in Oklahoma public schools.
  • Experience administering the Oklahoma Alternate Assessment.
Special Requirements
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States full‑time without sponsorship now or in the future.
  • Successful completion of a pre‑employment background check.
  • Must be able to perform necessary job‑related travel.
Essential Functions
  • Deep understanding of special education laws, regulations, and best practices, particularly alternate assessments for students with disabilities.
  • Manage day‑to‑day operations of the OAAP, including planning, implementation, evaluation, and compliance with state and federal guidelines.
  • Coordinate accommodations for students with special needs during assessments and provide guidance and training to district personnel.
  • Oversee data collection, analysis, and reporting for the OAAP, ensuring accuracy, integrity, and confidentiality.
  • Engage stakeholders—school districts, educators, parents, and advocacy organizations—to serve as a resource and point of contact for OAAP inquiries.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives, staying abreast of emerging research and best practices in alternate assessment and accommodations.
  • Maintain a professional, positive, and empathetic demeanor; exhibit integrity and build relationships.
  • Ensure reliable in‑person attendance and punctuality.
  • Identify and implement innovative, efficient solutions to enhance educational outcomes.
  • Deliver superior customer service and maintain a positive agency image.
