Job DescriptionThis is a permanent role for 37 hours/week, term time. This is for an Easter start, or sooner.
- Lead the daily running of the preschool room, ensuring smooth routines and a calm, purposeful learning environment
- Prepare and organise snack times.
- Act as a positive role model, maintaining high standards of practice, behaviour management, and interaction with children
- Plan and deliver, with support of EY lead, engaging activities aligned with the teacher’s planning
- Ensure ratios are met and staff are deployed effectively throughout the day
- Lead short inputs based around storytime, maths, phonics and ‘topic’ following direction and plans of EY lead.
- Work closely with the EY lead to implement planned learning activities
- Adapt activities to meet the needs of individual children, including SEND and EAL
- Observe children’s engagement and progress, feeding back key information to the EY lead
- Promote play-based learning and independence in line with the EYFS
- Carry out observations and contribute to children’s learning records (tapestry and end of term assessments)
- Support accurate and timely completion of assessments and next steps
- Share relevant information during handovers, meetings, and reviews
- Support and guide practitioners within the room, including new or less experienced staff
- Communicate clearly with staff about daily expectations and routines
- Organise, maintain, and rotate resources to support planned learning and children’s interests
- Ensure the indoor and outdoor environments are safe, stimulating, and well presented
- Monitor stock levels and report resource needs to the EY lead
- Take responsibility for safeguarding practice within the room and follow school and nursery policies
- Ensure health and safety procedures are followed at all times
- Support children’s personal care needs, including toileting and hygiene, with dignity and consistency
- Administer first aid and medication in line with policy (if trained)
- Build positive, professional relationships with parents and carers
- Share relevant daily information about children’s wellbeing and experiences
- Direct learning-related queries to the teacher where appropriate
- Use allocated half-day preparation time effectively for:
- Organising resources
- Completing observations and paperwork
- Preparing the environment for upcoming learning
- Meeting with the EY lead to discuss children’s needs and room organisation
- Attend staff meetings, training, and supervision as required
- Reflect on practice and engage in continuous professional development
