Position: Deputy Head (Academic)

Deputy Head – Academic

St. Francis' College is seeking to appoint a Deputy Head, Academic to join the senior leadership team.

As Deputy Head you will be a member of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) responsible for day‑to‑day management and delivery of the curriculum, ensuring the highest possible outcomes of teaching and results. You will have overall responsibility for ensuring excellent academic standards across the College.

Set in the midst of Letchworth Garden City, St. Francis' College has been providing a first‑class education for girls for over 85 years, blending traditional values and a modern vision. St. Francis’ College has been recognised for its outstanding academic results, pastoral support and the extensive range of extracurricular activities available for students.

We are seeking a Deputy Headteacher who will work with the Head to ensure every pupil has access to a broad, balanced, and future‑ready curriculum that is meaningful, relevant, and prepares them for success in higher education, careers, and life.

Responsibilities
  • Provide strategic leadership for all academic matters, driving a culture of high expectations, innovation and aspiration across the Senior School.
  • Collaborate with the Head and other SLT members to manage daily curriculum delivery and academic standards.
  • Inspire staff and students to reach challenging goals through effective communication and good judgement.
  • Work successfully within a team and independently to achieve academic improvement.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Proven track record of inspiring others to reach challenging goals.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Experience in senior leadership roles within a secondary school setting.
  • Commitment to safeguarding, child protection and safeguarding processes.

Closing date for this vacancy is 6th February 2026. Interviews will take place week commencing 23rd February 2026.
