Job Summary

Provide a comprehensive and culturally sensitive set of support services designed to ensure the academic success of underrepresented students as measured by high retention and graduation rates. Provide academic advising for an identified case load of students and track student success in an effort to increase retention and completion rates.

Essential Duties
  • Provide culturally sensitive academic support services to an identified case load of students; assist students with educational and career planning.
  • Provide academic coaching to a caseload of students with the goal of knowing the status of each student at the end of each semester.
  • Plan and implement student programming and high impact practices that work to increase the retention of underrepresented student populations.
  • Work in collaboration with other TCC Staff (Academic Advisement, Financial Aid, Faculty Advisors) to promote individual success.
  • Track student academic progress within the designated case load/student population.
  • Communicate with case load students at designated times each semester, with a focus on student success, retention and completion.
  • Refer students to personal support services either within the college or in the community.
  • Develop an individual action plan of success with students that has academic and personal goals established.
  • Refer students to academic support resources such as tutoring labs and/or faculty.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Applied Behavioral Studies, Psychology, Sociology, Child Development, Human Relations, or Education.
  • One year experience advising community college students.
  • Ability to develop positive relationships with personnel at all levels.
  • Experience in advising community college students.
  • Ability to interact effectively with students, faculty, staff and the community demonstrating effective verbal and written communication, including listening skills.
  • Ability to perform duties under one’s own initiative and with limited supervision.
