The Tulsa City-County Library Maker Space Specialist creates dynamic, welcoming, and hands‑on experiences within the Library’s Maker Spaces. The Specialist empowers customers to explore, create, and innovate by providing expert guidance on Maker Space equipment, software, and tools. The Specialist delivers engaging orientations and safety trainings, ensuring all users feel confident and supported while working in the space.
In addition to direct customer support, the Maker Space Specialist stays current on emerging technologies, software advancements, and industry best practices. This position evaluates new trends and tools and makes thoughtful recommendations to the Regional Library Manager to keep the Maker Space innovative, relevant, and responsive to community needs.
Key responsibilities- Promotes the Library’s Maker Space through special programming, outreach and communication efforts.
- Maintains all Maker Space equipment, software and supplies.
- Assists customers of all ages in using tools, equipment, material and software in the Maker Space; offers orientation training on Maker Space resources including 3D printers, laser cutters, CNC and vinyl cutting, sewing, and audio lab technologies; develop and maintain product knowledge regarding tools, equipment, material and software for specific projects in order to meet the needs of customers in the Maker Space;
maintain a safe and comfortable library environment. - Coordinates programs and develop learning experiences for diverse audiences (e.g., children, young adults, adults, families, and other groups) in anticipation of or response to customer interest or needs.
- Performs checks on equipment daily and documents status, need for repair, etc. Performs triage maintenance on equipment and software and works with the library’s IT Department to maintain and operate Maker Space hardware, software and equipment.
- Promotes Maker Space services and resources off‑site for community and educational organizations and events and maker‑oriented events, such as Maker Faire; maintain local, regional and national connections in the maker Movement to learn and grow, while providing information and expertise in the same networks; including presentation opportunities at library conferences and to the library commission.
- Ability to provide clear directions in a patient manner to customers becoming accustomed to new technology and concepts.
- Strong research and problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to navigate and perform tasks on a variety of technical software, including Microsoft Office and Apple products.
- Some knowledge of software and equipment for video editing, photography, graphic design, computer coding, robotics, audio engineering, web design, and digital conversion.
- Bachelor’s degree required in the areas of education, technology, or related field.
- One or more years of experience facilitating user training in a technical environment.
- Previous experience working with Maker Space technologies; including but not limited to 3D printing, laser engraving, CNC milling, and audio recording.
- Demonstrated experience in providing quality customer service.
- Or equivalent technical training, education, and/or experience.
Rudisill Regional Library – 1520 N. Hartford, Tulsa, OK 74106. New Rudisill Regional Library opening in the Historic Greenwood District Fall 2026.
Schedule40 hours/week – occasional evenings and weekends are required for outreach and programming.
Salary$21.10 per hour.

Work occasionally requires stooping or bending. Occasional light lifting, such as three or four reams of paper, four or five books, or other materials (up to 20 pounds) may be required. There are occasional minor discomforts from exposure to less than optimal temperature and air conditions. The job may involve dealing with moderately unpleasant situations, such as occasional exposure to office chemicals and/or extensive use of video display terminals.
