A QA/QC employee at Irby Construction Company will oversee, monitor, test, and report on construction activities per the civil design drawings and specifications as well as structural project-related activities, ensuring construction meets all requirements. The employee will provide effective measures to ensure construction work and materials are in strict compliance with utility standards, engineering specifications, and compliance requirements. The candidate must possess a minimum of four to eight (4‑8) years of substation construction experience and in‑depth knowledge of all applicable OSHA codes and standards.
WhatYou'll Do Pre‑Construction Duties
- Layout of proposed structural elements.
- Observe concrete pours to ensure delivery/placement/finishing is satisfactory.
- Verify that erosion control elements are installed correctly and maintained, then communicate with supervision as necessary.
- Document construction progress via reports/photos.
- Coordinating necessary testing for subgrade, earth fill and/or structural elements.
- Attend pre‑construction meetings with PM/Estimator.
- Provide technical assistance, interpretation of drawings, recommend construction methods and equipment as required.
- Review bid packages for accuracy, completeness, and overall electrical scope of work.
- Assist in instituting construction plans.
- Assist in lists of required tooling.
- Manage and control all quality control activities in accordance with identified quality control standards, company procedures, client specifications and contract requirements.
- Continuously review quality control processes, procedures, and capabilities.
- Review client QC requirements and ensure that quality control documentation for the project meets contractual requirements.
- Submit inspection requests in coordination with concerned site/project supervision.
- Conduct three‑phase inspection of all ongoing activities for civil, electrical, mechanical, etc.
- Attend all inspections with client representatives.
- Prepare daily QA/QC reports, inspections, material, and non‑conformance records.
- Prepare weekly reports, non‑conformance reports and verification of corrective actions.
- Check the drawings and submittals used at site for compliance with project requirements.
- Ensure that all works are carried out as per the approved method statements and drawings.
- Attend all required project meetings with owner as needed.
- Verify that as‑builts and progress charts are maintained.
- Maintain a good line of communication with inspector.
- Minimum of four to eight (4‑8) years of substation construction experience.
- Adherence to all company safety and health policies.
- Willingness to stay out of town. Typical work weeks are 4‑10 hour shifts or 5‑10 hour shifts. Availability to travel as projects require.
- Willingness to work overtime and extended periods of time.
- Ability to work in storm restoration operations to rebuild and/or repair damaged power systems.
- Availability to attend training classes or seminars to gain knowledge of new processes, safety regulations and/or refresher training.
- Walking and working across uneven terrain.
- Ability to climb on and off large trucks and equipment.
- Ability to work outside 100% of the time, including inclement weather (heat, cold, rain, possible snow).
- Ability to lift in excess of 50 pounds daily.
- Willingness to work off the ground in man baskets. Normal working heights are 20‑60 feet with the possibility of working at 120 feet.
