The Job Details:
The Engineer 1 position ensures maximum operating efficiency, minimal down time and conformity with all company, state, and federal health and safety rules. In addition, we need someone who works well with others and is self-motivated. Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
- Monitor ammonia refrigeration system pressures, temperatures, and levels.
- Perform routine equipment walk-throughs and inspections.
- Check compressor operation, oil levels, and discharge temperatures.
- Monitor control panels, alarms, and automation systems.
- Record system readings in daily log sheets or digital monitoring systems.
- Perform scheduled maintenance on compressors, pumps, evaporators, and condensers.
- Lubricate moving parts and check oil separators and oil levels.
- Replace or clean filters, strainers, and screens.
- Inspect and maintain valves, gaskets, and seals.
- Check and test defrost systems.
- Inspect evaporator coils, condensers, and cooling towers.
- Check for ammonia leaks or unusual odors.
- Inspect insulation on piping to prevent condensation or energy loss.
- Verify proper operation of pressure relief valves and safety devices.
- Follow ammonia safety protocols and emergency procedures.
- Conduct ammonia leak detection checks.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA Process Safety Management (PSM) requirements if applicable.
- Maintain proper lockout/tagout procedures when servicing equipment.
- Use proper PPE and gas detection equipment.
- Troubleshoot temperature fluctuations or system alarms.
- Replace small components such as sensors, belts, or valves.
- Assist senior technicians with compressor or major system repairs.
- Maintain maintenance logs and inspection records.
- Document repairs and preventative maintenance performed.
- Report system issues to supervisors or engineering teams.
- Monitor freezer and cooler temperatures in storage areas.
- Assist with energy efficiency monitoring.
- Coordinate with warehouse operations if temperature issues affect product storage.

- Cooling towers
- Control systems and sensors
- Establish and maintain a high level of professionalism that supports collaboration and problem solving while building strong working relationships with facility management, subordinates, and vendors.
- Ensures that all OSHA and EPA operational requirements and regulations are met.

What We Are Looking For:
Education
• High School Diploma or GED;
Tech School Graduate in HVAC or Equivalent Field, preferred
• Must pass Emergency Response Physical.
• Lung Capacity and Auditory Testing are conducted annually
Experience
• 1 to 2 years working knowledge of the public refrigerated warehouse (PRW) industry or related field.
• Working knowledge of the functions of various material handling equipment (e.g. forklifts, pallet jacks, lead acid batteries, battery chargers, etc.).
• Knowledge of ammonia refrigeration control systems.
• Knowledge of mechanics and mechanical skills
