ACHC is a Federally Qualified Health Center and licensed primary care clinic. We provide medical and dental care, with additional specialists in Chiropractic, Internal Medicine, Neurology, Pediatrics, Psychology, Podiatry and Optometry. ACHC Clinics are located across Fresno, Kings and Tulare counties.
Responsibilities- Assists the Medical Providers (Physician, Nurse Practitioner and Physician Assistant) within scope of practice. May also perform clerical and information technology functions for medical providers in a clinic setting, including primary responsibility for the operation of electronic health records and electronic dictation systems. Primary goal is to increase the efficiency and productivity of the Provider. Must be able to anticipate Provider’s needs to facilitate the flow of clinic.
Must be discreet, tactful, and unobtrusive in performance of duties so as not to distract medical staff from patient care. Good judgment, organizational ability, initiative, attention to detail, and the ability to be self-motivated are especially important. Must be adaptable and versatile. Provides coverage to clinics throughout the ACHC network. Good attendance is an important element of this job. - Prepares patient and area for procedures.
- Patient Intake:
Obtains vital signs (pulse, respiration, blood pressure, temperature);
Measures height and weight;
Performs vision screening and Audiometry screening;
Obtains reason for visit;
Obtains History (immunizations, allergies, family, surgery, obstetric/Gynecological);
Obtains specimens using correct collection technique (urine, capillary tests, HA1C, cholesterol). - Assists Provider on patient care examination and treatment procedures as directed.
- Scribe duties:
Transcribe history and physical, document encounter, list diagnoses and follow-up instructions, transcribe orders and document procedures. - Discharge of patients: verify instructions and signatures; assist with check-out/appointment scheduling.
- Daily tasks: open exam rooms, check/turn on otoscope/ophthalmoscopes, check pelvic equipment/instruments, ensure supplies are available, clean exam tables, log refrigerator temperatures, perform quality controls.
- Maintain and enter information in computer systems and patient charts; perform other routines as assigned; travel to other clinics as needed; overtime as needed.
- Medical terminology; ability to record exam details.
- Computer proficiency and ability to learn new applications; legible handwriting.
- Organizational skills focused on patient care and improving patient flow; privacy considerations.
- Ability to multi-task, stay calm in busy settings; effective communication in English.
- Adherence to policies including safety, confidentiality, attendance, punctuality, and personal appearance; ability to establish and maintain relationships; assist in training new staff and externs.
- Must possess a valid Driver license and clear driving record.
- Must be 21 or older due to insurance and regulatory requirements.
- Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred.
- Education and experience as a Medical Assistant. Prefer 1-2 years of experience. History with Next Gen software and medical coding training or certification preferred but not required.

Clear communication with patients in person and over the telephone. - Vision:
Visual acuity adequate to perform job duties, including reading printed sources and computer screens. - Cognitive:
Ability to complete tasks, including learning, remembering, focusing, categorizing, and problem-solving. - Motor Function & Mobility:
Move within the work environment; occasional lifting up to 10 pounds; frequent standing, sitting, bending, reaching; dexterity; some pushing and pulling.
