Maintenance Technician – General

Sunnyside Unified School District

Definition

Under general supervision, maintains repairs and performs routine building maintenance for Sunnyside Unified School District.

Essential Functions
  • Maintains and repairs electrical, plumbing, and mechanical areas of the building; inspects, test and analyzes malfunctions of equipment and systems.
  • Troubleshoots, dismantles, remodels, repairs, reassembles and installs controllers, relays, sensors and switches on assigned equipment and systems.
  • Repairs, maintains and retrofits electrical systems, fire alarms, public address systems and telephone systems.
  • Repairs vandalism or storm damage to buildings and grounds.
  • Performs preventative maintenance of assigned equipment and systems.
  • Repairs or finishes furniture, cabinetry and walls; repairs or replaces damaged mirrors, windows, carpet, flooring and doors in buildings and school buses.
  • Repairs or opens locked doors and gates; welds and repairs playground and maintenance equipment and school buses.
  • Fabricates access ramps and hand rails; paints and glazes indoors and outdoors.
  • Assists with other trades maintenance activities.
  • Calculates amounts and places orders for construction project materials; contacts vendors according to procurement procedures; performs related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Other Characteristics
  • Knowledge of District policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of maintenance manuals, techniques and equipment.
  • Knowledge of painting, carpentry, roofing, locksmith and/or welding techniques.
  • Skill in the safe operation of power tools, hand tools, saws and other maintenance equipment.
  • Skill in following oral and written instructions.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
Physical Requirements
  • Work performed in indoor and outdoor environments.
  • Frequent driving, standing, walking, bending and lifting.
  • Easily exposed to moving equipment and hand tools, extreme weather conditions, toxic fumes and chemicals, harmful dust and air particles and infectious diseases.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Three (3) years trades maintenance experience in electrical, plumbing, general maintenance or related field, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Must possess an Arizona driver license.
  • Must pass district administered examination with a score of 70 or greater.
  • Additional certifications may also be required as specified by the District.
  • Depending on the needs of the District, some incumbent may need to demonstrate fluency in both Spanish and English as a condition of employment.

  • Salary Grade: G
  • Hourly Pay: $19.00
  • Hours per Day: 8
