Responsibilities
  • Apply journeyman-level expertise in industrial electrical maintenance, troubleshooting, construction, and preventive maintenance to support essential wastewater treatment operations.
  • Install, repair, diagnose, and modernize complex electrical systems across high-voltage (46 kV), medium-voltage (4160 VAC), and low-voltage (480 VAC and 240/120 VAC) power systems.
  • Work on critical infrastructure including motors, motor controls, VFDs, PLCs, switch gear, transformers, generators, and transfer switches.
  • Support SCADA and PLC-based control systems to ensure reliable monitoring, control, and automation of plant operations.
  • Perform work in compliance with NFPA 70 (NEC), NFPA 70E, OSHA, and County safety standards, with emphasis on safety, system reliability, and service to the community.
  • Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair industrial electrical systems rated at 480 volts or higher in County facilities.
  • Maintain lighting, control systems, and process alarm wiring in overhead cable trays, underground duct banks, vaults, and manholes.
  • Maintain electrical equipment in OSHA-classified spaces (explosive hazardous rated locations).
  • Troubleshoot industrial control systems, AC/DC variable speed motors, VFDs, and soft starters.
  • Recommend electrical system requirements for facilities and conduct technical inspections on new installations and modifications of equipment.
  • Determine routing, location, and method of installing industrial wiring, conduits, equipment, fixtures, and accessories from drawings, diagrams, blueprints, specifications, and sketches.
  • Operate and maintain medium voltage (15kV) substations including protective relays and controls.
  • Test, calibrate, and program breaker trip settings and functions.
  • Perform scheduled inspections and proper preventative maintenance on electrical panels and associated equipment; upgrade equipment as needed.
  • Identify and document electrical enclosures and equipment within facilities and maintain accurate labeling in panels, MCCs, junction boxes, and switch gear.
  • Follow proper safety protocols on electrical equipment.
  • Prepare work schedules and coordinate maintenance with integrated teams.
  • Prepare technical reports of electrical operational issues.
  • Perform calculations for sizing electrical circuits, transformers, UPS units, panels, breakers, starters, boxes, conduits, and wire sizes.
  • May oversee and consult with outside electrical and construction contractors.
Qualifications / Requirements
  • Experience in industrial electrical maintenance and related fieldwork as described in Essential Functions above.
  • Knowledge of high/medium/low voltage systems and associated safety standards (NFPA, OSHA).
  • Ability to read complex electrical drawings, wiring diagrams, blueprints, and specifications.
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills to coordinate with teams and prepare technical reports.
