We provide full-service electrical, civil, manufacturing, engineering and general contracting services for the water and reclamation industry. Smyth Industries Industrial Coatings Division is currently searching for a General Laborer to help enhance our current team. The ideal candidate will foster teamwork and create a positive work environment in a fast-paced industry, while helping our Arizona clients engineer, rehabilitate, manufacture and construct water distribution and treatment infrastructure.

Scope

Under supervision, the General Laborer is responsible for performing a variety of physical and skilled tasks to support operations at Smyth Industries. This role includes site preparation, material handling, equipment operation, and assisting skilled trades. Support and adhere to Smyth Industries Policies and Procedures, Safety Compliance, and Values.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Site Preparation & Maintenance:
    Clean and organize work areas; remove debris. Prepare sites for projects. Load, unload, and place materials, tools, and equipment in assigned designated areas. Assist with material movement and proper disposal of waste. Keep tools, materials, and work areas organized.
  • Equipment & Tool Operation:
    Safely operate hand/power tools and basic equipment. Inspect, clean, and maintain tools and equipment. Follow proper setup and operating procedures for specialized equipment.
  • Project Assistance:
    Support skilled trades and project teams as needed. Help with assembly, installation, and related tasks. Perform additional duties to ensure project success.
  • Communication & Teamwork:
    Follow supervisor instructions and work collaboratively. Maintain clear, professional communication on site. Work efficiently to meet schedules and quality standards.
  • Safety & Compliance:
    Adhere to safety guidelines, OSHA regulations, and site procedures. Wear required PPE at all times. Participate in safety meetings and hazard reporting. Follow safe practices in all environments (including heights/confined spaces). Maintain a safe and efficient work environment.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Ability to learn and follow instructions in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to pass a motor vehicle record (MVR) check.
  • Valid driver’s license and legally able to operate a company vehicle.
  • Pass a pre-employment drug screening.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks (standing, walking, bending, lifting up to 50 pounds, carrying 50-pound items, squatting, climbing ladders, outdoor work, exposure to weather, dust, noise, or prolonged standing).
  • Must wear company-supplied Personal Protective Equipment.
  • Typically works Monday – Thursday, 10-hour shifts between 5:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., with occasional work on Friday or Saturday as needed.
  • Occasional overtime may be required based on operational needs.
Preferred
  • Up to 3 years of construction experience.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Strong knowledge of water and reclamation construction.
  • Spanish language ability.
  • Safety:
    Follows safety rules and always wears PPE.
