Overview
Security Guard II, Museum of Art — The Security Guard provides a safe, welcoming environment for visitors, staff, and artwork at the University of Arizona Museum of Art. This position performs routine and specialized security duties, including patrolling galleries, monitoring surveillance systems, assisting with crowd control during events, and enforcing safety protocols. The Security Guard works under general supervision, following established procedures while exercising sound judgment to address incidents as they arise.
This position requires some prolonged walking and standing to effectively monitor the galleries, as well as working evening and weekend hours for special events.

Duties & Responsibilities- Patrol museum galleries, entrances, and surrounding areas to ensure safety and security of artwork, facilities, and visitors.
- Monitor and operate security and surveillance systems.
- Respond to alarms, emergencies, and incidents according to established protocols.
- Provide information and assistance to visitors in a courteous and professional manner.
- Enforce museum rules, University policies, and safety regulations.
- Assist with crowd control during public programs, events, and exhibition openings.
- Document and report incidents, maintenance needs, or safety hazards.
- Coordinate with University Police, Facilities Management, and museum staff as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Knowledge of security operations, public safety, and emergency response procedures.
- Strong observation and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to remain calm and effective in high-pressure situations.
- Skill in clear and concise verbal and written communication.
- Excellent visitor and customer service skills.
- High school diploma or high school diploma equivalency is required.
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
- Availability:
Saturdays and occasional evenings.
- Experience in cultural institution or museum security.
- Experience with security monitoring systems.
- Ability to obtain/maintain applicable certifications (e.g., CPR/First Aid, defensive tactics).
