The Gun Vault Specialist is responsible for backroom maintenance of all processes related to firearms. The role includes safely handling firearms, acquiring and disposing of firearms in compliance with all company, state, and federal regulations, maintaining a complete and accurate inventory, and providing counter sales and customer service for firearms and hunting merchandise. Responsibilities also cover customer interaction, sales support, and ensuring a pleasant shopping experience.
ESSENTIALFUNCTIONS
- Physically and systematically receives or acquires incoming firearms each day, verifying accuracy and completing required documentation.
- Disposes of firearms shipped or transferred to licensed dealers, ensuring correct disposition data is reported.
- Conducts monthly firearms audits.
- Ensures timely completion of ATF required forms, state forms, background checks, and screening for legality of sales, preventing straw purchases.
- Participates in ongoing training in firearms, shooting product information, compliance, and sales techniques.
- Safely imports, cleans, prepares, and packages firearms for retail sale, following federal/state laws and company policy.
- Maintains a clean work area and well-stocked supplies.
- Delivers world-class customer service by greeting customers, identifying needs, making product recommendations, and promoting in-store programs.
- Demonstrates firearm products to customers.
- Organizes and maintains firearms in the Gun Counter, Fine Gun Room, Gun Library, and Gun Vault.
- Meets visual merchandising standards, restocking, remerchandising, and cleaning fixtures.
- Sets and maintains advertised firearm listings.
- Maintains pricing and signage for firearms.
- Replenishes product on shelves per merchandising guidelines.
- Assists with seasonal floor merchandise moves.
- Responds to ATF or State Firearm Trace Requests promptly.
- Trains store outfitters as requested by the GM or Ops Support Manager.
- Remains a product expert through ongoing training.
- Follows all company policies and other duties as assigned.
- Performs any additional duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- 2 to 4 years of retail experience.
- Must be 21 years of age or older.
- Legal ownership and possession of firearms under federal and state law.
- Understanding and recalling complex compliance regulations and confidential information.
- Customer service and sales skills for firearms and hunting merchandise.
- Proficiency with ATF & state paperwork (4473, etc.).
- Experience with GCA certification.
- Knowledge of ARMS acquisition, disposition, and inventory control.
- Safe handling of firearms and ammunition.
- Computer and retail operations knowledge.
- Merchandise stocking ability.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS- Regular walking, standing, and lifting up to 50 lbs; occasional computer use.
- Rarely sits.
- Performs duties within company policies and objectives; analyzes problems and adapts guidelines to achieve results.
- Exercises independent judgment in accepted practices and recommends policy/practice adjustments.
