Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions:

Grocery Clerk helps customers discover new items or products they inquire about.

Informs customers of food specials and recommends grocery items to ensure they get the products they want and need.

Checks product quality to ensure freshness, reviews "sell by" dates, and takes appropriate action.

Provides customers with fresh and non-perishable grocery products that they have ordered.

Recommends grocery items to customers to meet their needs.

Labels, stocks, and inventories department merchandise.

Reports product ordering/shipping discrepancies to the department manager.

Stays current with present, future, seasonal, and special ads.

Adheres to all food safety regulations and guidelines.

Ensures proper temperatures in cases and coolers are maintained and temperature logs are kept.

Gains and maintains knowledge of products sold within the department and responds to questions and makes suggestions.

Creates an environment that makes customers feel welcome, important, and appreciated by answering questions about products.

Reinforces safety programs by complying with safety procedures and reporting unsafe conditions.

Practices preventive maintenance by inspecting equipment and notifying management of repairs.

Notifies management of customer or employee accidents.

Works cooperatively in high-paced and stressful environments.

Manages conflict in a reasonable, nonconfrontational manner.

Acts with honesty and integrity regarding customer and business information.

Follows directions and seeks assistance to resolve issues.

Supports and assists customers, including minors, individuals with special needs, and older adults.

Performs essential functions with or without reasonable accommodations.

Qualifications

Minimum Position Qualifications:

Knowledge of basic math (counting, addition, subtraction).
