The Veterinary Technician supports hospital operations by providing dedicated quality veterinary care and exceptional service to our patients and clients. Responsibilities include determining animal requirements, conducting examinations and diagnostic procedures, assisting during surgery and operations, providing nursing care, feeding and caring for patients, maintaining supplies, overseeing triage, discharging patients, and maintaining medical records.
Key Responsibilities- Determine animal requirements by conducting examinations, reviewing care plans, completing lab tests and imaging.
- Care for patients by taking vital signs, collecting samples, administering medications and vaccines, and bandaging wounds.
- Support patient examinations and operations by preparing supplies, restraining patients, and assisting the veterinarian.
- Apply full knowledge of anatomy, physiology, disease processes, pharmacology, and specialized drug administration.
- Obtain and verify medications, ensure proper dispensing and document controlled drugs.
- Maintain a safe environment by sterilizing instruments, disinfecting areas, storing supplies, and following standards.
- Document patient records accurately in the database.
- Communicate patient status to owners as directed.
- Maintain equipment and inventory; perform preventive maintenance.
- Update job knowledge through education and professional journals.
- Release patients to their owners, ensuring they are clean and groomed.
- Follow oral and written directions and perform other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Minimum 4–5 years of experience as a Veterinary Technician in an emergency/critical care setting.
- Proficiency in monitoring patients during anesthetic procedures and in emergency protocols.
- Skilled in venipuncture and blood collection for diagnostics.
- Strong understanding of triage, critical patient care, and emergency protocols.
- Comfortable working in a fast‑paced environment.
- Exceptional communication and teamwork skills.
- Advanced proficiency in IV catheter placement (peripheral and jugular).
- Strong knowledge of fluid therapy, shock management, and oxygen supplementation.
- Ability to maintain accurate medical records and prioritize rapidly.
- Ability to safely restrain patients and obtain vitals.
