Manufacturing Intern

Overview

The Manufacturing Intern position presents the student with a hands‑on opportunity to assist in the development and evaluation of new and alternative manufacturing processes.

Responsibilities Manufacturing and Engineering Support
  • Assist in the implementation of Statistical Process Control (SPC) techniques to establish process capability metric
  • Develop working knowledge of general manufacturing processes
  • Support data collection and analysis for quality metrics, trends, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Evaluate and troubleshoot optical fabrication processes
  • Help review and update quality documentation such as work instructions and forms
  • Help develop process procedures and work instructions where none exist
  • Update existing procedures and work instructions as necessary
  • Training in CAD software
  • Participate in process improvement projects and risk‑based problem‑solving activities
  • Comply with federal, state, and company policies, procedures, and regulations
Cross‑Functional Collaboration
  • Work with Manufacturing, Engineering, and Supply Chain teams to support quality objectives
  • Participate in team meetings, training sessions, and continuous improvement activities
  • Communicate findings, observations, and recommendations clearly and professionally

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Familiarity with basic inspection tools and measurement techniques
  • Coursework or experience related to quality systems, statistics, or process improvement
  • Experience with data analysis or basic statistical tools
  • Basic understanding of manufacturing processes and quality concepts
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Computer skills; PC literacy in Excel, Word
  • Good vision and manual dexterity
  • US Citizenship or Permanent Residence required
Education/Experience

High School or College student interested in an Engineering or Physics Degree

Physical Requirements

Occasionally lifts, carries, or moves objects up to 50 pounds; adequate manual dexterity to perform duties; work in office and/or lab environment.

Compensation Range Transparency

At Edmund Optics, we are committed to transparency and equity in our hiring practices. The posted salary range for this role reflects the expected base pay. The actual offer will be based on multiple factors, including but not limited to relevant skills, education, work experience, business needs, and geographic location.

Salary Range

$16.00 - $18.00 per hour
