Position Summary
As an Engine Technician, you will play a key role in mechanically assembling precision aircraft engines, performing detailed inspections, and conducting test runs to ensure performance and reliability before product release. Your technical skill, attention to detail, and hands-on mechanical aptitude will be central to Desert Aircraft’s commitment to excellence in engineered products.
Key Responsibilities
Engine Assembly and Build
- Assemble engine components and sub-assemblies in accordance with detailed work instructions and engineering drawings
- Install and align crankshafts, pistons, cylinders, ignition systems, carburetors, and related hardware
- Utilize precision tools including torque wrenches, micrometers, dial indicators, and assembly fixtures
Inspection & Quality Verification
- Perform consistent visual and dimensional inspections throughout assembly
- Confirm component tolerances and mechanical fit to strict quality standards
- Document findings and escalate issues to supervisors as needed
Engine Test and Performance Evaluation
- Conduct controlled engine test runs on designated test stands
- Monitor performance metrics (e.g., idle behavior, response, vibration, and temperature where applicable)
- Identify and troubleshoot operational irregularities; make adjustments within defined procedures
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain accurate records of assembly steps, inspections, and test results
- Communicate effectively with engineers and quality personnel on product status
Safety & Process Improvement
- Adhere to all safety protocols related to mechanical assembly, fuels, tools, and test operations
- Support continuous improvement of assembly processes and test procedures
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and hands-on assembly experience
- Comfortable reading and applying written instructions and mechanical layouts
- Proficient with hand tools, torque equipment, and basic measuring instruments
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to precision
- Ability to work independently and as part of a small technical team
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience with small engine assembly, production mechanics, or similar
- Familiarity with combustion engine mechanics or precision machining environments
- Technical or vocational training in mechanical technology
- 1-3+ Years of Comparable Assembly & Testing Experience
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and work at benches for extended periods
- Manual dexterity to handle small fasteners and precision components
- Capability to lift up to 40 pounds safely
