The Director of Behavioral Health will provide overall management, leadership in the direction and administration of the Tribal Regional Behavioral Health Authority and Pascua Yaqui Behavioral Health Programs (PYBHP); oversees day-to-day operations, establishes sound management practices, and procedures.

  • Supervise staff, to include, prioritize and assign work, conduct performance evaluations, ensure staff is trained and follow policies and procedures, maintain healthy and safe working environment, make hiring, termination, and disciplinary recommendations, and assure that effective clinical supervision is provided to clinical staff.
  • Provide leadership for the development, implementation, and management of the Pascua Yaqui Behavioral Health Programs (PYBHP), including but not limited to, Adult Services, Children Services, Guadalupe Outpatient Center, Methadone Clinic, Residential Treatments Programs, and Drug Court.
  • Oversee and monitor the departmental budget, including allocating resources, approve expenditures, monitor program revenues and budget forecasting functions.
  • Prepare and/or review complex reports, contracts, grant proposals, and studies; make recommendations on a wide variety of administrative or management policies.
  • Develop and maintain policies and procedures relevant to program content and implementation.
  • Perform case management activities such as consulting with other departments and agencies to coordinate care for patients, make recommendations for outside treatment, and participate in staff meetings to determine best treatment for patients.
  • Maintain a small case load of patients.
  • Develop and implement program objectives.
  • Oversee compliance monitoring for tribal contracts and grant requirements from state, federal, third party contractors, and oversight of state-licensed tribal facilities located off-reservation.
  • Ensure best practices in clinical service areas.
  • Lead initiatives to improve overall communication and dissemination of behavioral health information to other divisions, departments and the community.
  • Provide visionary, innovative leadership, which encourages and recognizes creativity, innovation, and flexibility at all levels of PYBHP.
  • Represent the interests of the PYBHP in relation to state, federal and regional governments, third party contractors and all other outside groups or agencies.
  • Research and develop potential sources of federal, state, and third party funding in keeping with the goals of the organization.
  • Ensures staff understands and complies with the policies and procedures for billing services to outside vendors.
  • Coordinate with the Medical Director on the supervision and scheduling of Psychiatry staff.
  • Provide or facilitate technical assistance to provider agencies as requested.
  • Serve as the Senior Advisor to the Health Director on Behavioral Health Policy.
  • Perform other duties of a similar nature or level as requested by supervisor or director.

    • Best practices and culturally appropriate clinical care in the Behavioral Health field;
    • Yaqui culture, customs, resources and traditions and/or a willingness to learn.
